Apparently from the reviews most visit from the west side which involves lots of steps. We visited from the east side starting near river level on the upstream end of the gorge. A level paved path is notched into the cliffs. One can walk or take a man powered rickshaw (which we did). The legend is that a tiger escaped... More

Definitely enjoyed seeing this gorge, but be warned that there are a lot of tourists. The steps and pathways are extremely good. Staff down at the lowest level sell wooden wishing plaques to bring good fortune.

This is the last stage of our Yunnan Tour to Shangri-la as we arrived on the second stop at the Tiger Leaping Gorge on 21 Apr 2017 (Fri). It is a breathtaking view and scenic from the top as well as we descend down the wooden steps. Climbing up the 400+ steps was tiring and we have to make several... More

This is an impressive sight. However, it is marred somewhat by the construction. Roads, buildings, cables and pipes at most viewpoints detract from the serenity I had hoped for. It's still worth a visit though, especially as a stopping off point between Lijiang and Shangri-La. Following some advice we started the hike at Tea Horse Guesthouse (we were dropped off... More

this gorge is magnificent, something of a challenge as there are over 500 steps to climb back up. The mighty river, even on a rainy day is worth the effort and certainly not to be missed if you are in the Lijiang area. If you are not travelling to Shangri-La, then do it as a day excursion from Liiang

Tiger Leap Gorge is half way between Lijiang and Shangri-la. For many tourists, this is a must-go tourist attraction when you visit Lijiang. But I personally don't find it so spectacular and didn’t even plan it in my original itinerary. On my way back to Lijiang, the travel company in Shangri-la from which I booked a car with driver offered... More

On a sunny day, it's a good walk down to the viewing platform and we can get really close to the roaring water. There were 2 viewing platform and the view from both were good. A must see in the area.

The scenery is impressive, there are good facilities with cold drinks and toilets, but I must admit we were a bit underwhelmed. Maybe because it was not the most impressive time of the year with crazy rapids, or because currently there are many huge construction sites on the way which destroy a bit the feeling of being in a 'natural... Tiger Leaping Gorge is spectacular but I would suggest if you are fit and enjoy trekking then see it from high above. It is very popular with domestic Chinese tourists so expect thousands of people. It seems the Chinese are trying to cover the whole country in concrete and there is a huge amount of work going on around the... More
