Vadstena is a beautiful small town on the banks of Lake Vättern, a town well worth a visit.

Vadstena Klosterkyra is a well preserved medieval church, with a lot of history and impressive artifacts. Inspiring architecture and interesting artworks, well worth a visit.

Beautiful old Abbey church from the 14th century. Really nice vaulting and plenty of impressive woodcut sculptures throughout the church. The two main wooden altar pieces were particularly interesting. Definitely recommend a visit.

The best views of the exterior are from the graveyard to the east in the morning or from the lakeside to the west in the late afternoon/evening.

It is said that Saint Birgitta received instructions on how to build it from Christ himself. It became one of Europe's most important pilgrimage destinations and right next door is the Pilgrim Center. And without her, Vadstena would not be what it became.
It is a nice church built in Gothic style, located in a park where you can relax. To the right of the church is Birgitta's monastery where she created the monastic order "The Most Holy Order of the Savior."

Well preserved, awe inspiring medieval church. Interesting art. Beautiful setting by the lake and in a pretty little town worth exploring. Lots of visitors but then again we visited in peak holiday season, I can imagine it’s more peaceful at other times of the year.

The church and monastery were at the time of our visit, very quiet, at a peaceful lake. The story of Saint Birgitta is very interesting. There are several nice sculptures representing her, one in ecstasy, another more realistic. The church also had fine altarpieces. The town itself is well worth a visit too, with wooden houses and a castle as a bonus.

A wonderfully spiritual church with regular prayer times and medieval Woden statues of Our Lady and Saint Bridget of Sweden , with her shrine to venerated. A really special mass with historical information

I think my enjoyment of the place may have been slightly marred by the group of very noisy Swedish children who came in (teachers - where were you?) but I still managed to get a feel of a lovely church.
It has some beautiful windows and pieces of art as well as the relics of St Birgitta.
There is a small gift shop which sells some modest pieces and has some friendly volunteers working there.
If you can avoid being there when a school party arrives it is worth a visit.

So steeped in the very interesting history of saint Birgitta. A must but get a guide. We walked around ourselves and it felt as it there was a lot of information we missed. The place is huge for a little country town.
