T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire and home of the legendary Old Peculier Ale. Visit this historical brewery in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales town of Masham. Experience first hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our beers, the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family.2013 is a very special year as not only are we celebrating the 186th year of our company's foundation in 1827,but also ten years since we bought the brewery back from Scottish Courage and once again became a family owned independent brewery. Have a pint of our legendary beer in the Brewery Tap - The Black Bull in Paradise, names after the original inn, the Black Bull, where Robert Theakston first brewed our legendary ale and also the site where our brewery stands, once known as Paradise Fields. We always have six differnent Theakston Ales available on tap including our famous Old Peculier served from wooden casks. There is plenty to do and see including the Cooper’s shop where the cooper crafts the wooden barrels – one of the last remaining working cooperages in the country. Leave plenty of time to browse the gift shop full of ‘Peculier’ souvenirs and other Yorkshire delights.

Visited the brewery with family including 2 teens (17). Interesting tour and very informative. The tour lasts 30-40 mins for about £15. Includes drink at the end where you can get 6 1/3 tasker drinks per couple. Or you can just have 2 pints. Really....More

If you are in Middleham then I'd recommend the brewery tour then stop and sample the beers after. I tried the coffee flavoured beer. I love the bar area with a beautiful traditional bar and a lovely fireplace. There is also a nice outside seating...More

We went on the 12:00 tour. We were the only two in the group. We were taken to all parts of the brewery. It was very interesting. We had vouchers for tasting the different draught beers on offer. We chose the 1/3 pint tastings. Three...More

Went on a tour as a family. It was meant to last 1 hour. The woman giving the tour clearly had something else to be getting on with, and managed a quick 40 minute tour, being agitated when anyone asked questions. Not sure what the...More

Excellent beers available in thirds, halves and pints. Old peculiar is still one of my hubbys favourites. Pub was cosy with a fire going, friendly staff and a shop with a few branded items if you wanted.

A great return visit after a 20 year gap. Very knowledgable and enthusiastic guide around a fascinating old brewery still using machines and equipment over 100 years old! Voucher for beer afterwards meant we shared 6 thirds of delicious ales highly recommended

The brewery is surprisingly small and has an awful lot of stairs to encounter. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered questions as they arose throughout the tour. The brewery is working so I can imagine each tour varies on time of day and what...More

My treat for my birthday. Went with three friends and joined one of the hourly tours. Had an informative visit and sampled the finished article at the end. Well worth the money.

Apologies for the late reply. There’s lots of nearby parking as it’s a short walk from the market place. I don’t think children are allowed on the brewery tours but you would need to ring and ask the question. Staff are very... More

Around 30-45 mins. Then the tasting you can do at your own leisure straight after the tour.
