Like all the piazza's in Perugia, the Piazza della Repubblica always seems to have something going on. From market stalls to merry-go-rounds. It's a great place to have a coffee or glass of wine at one of the local cafes and just sit.

Spello is one of the few Umbrian hilltop towns where you can easily take the train right up to the beginning of the town. From the station, it's an easy 5-10 minute walk. Once you get there, be aware that - as of about a month ago - the main part of town was completely dug up. It looked like... More

The main square, but also all the little medieval alleys leading up through the town are well worth a visit. We have now been there several time, showing guests around, and are never tired of it.... although the steep streets ARE somewhat tiring, admittedly.

This review is as much a review of Spello as it is of the piazza, because all of the town is equally lovely. We visited many towns in Umbria (and some in Tuscany), and Spello was the group's favorite for the combination of beauty, beautiful views, and blessedly few tourists. The residents and proprietors must take great pride in their... More

Nice, pleasant but average in terms of comparison with other Italian piazzas even in similar size towns/

We visited several perched villages throughout Umbria and loved every single one for various reasons. Spello was the most laid back and least crowded. In this piazza, many locals appeared to be relaxing in the shade of trees, and we found a little park around the corner without anyone else there. Loved all the flowers in Spello; the people here... We spent a charming time walking around in this well preserved medieval village and getting the feel of what could have been (and still is) life there.

This is the main Piazza of Cortona and is the 5th most popular in all of Italy for weddings. Not uncommon to sit and watch a couple in one day and the festivities that go with it. You can simply sit in the square, even on the very old steps of the town hall building and just take in the... More

My husband and I visited Cortona in October 2009 and we were left speechless as we wandered around this fascinating medieval town just on dusk and then again after partaking of a delicious meal at Ristorante Il Cacciatore just down the street . The Piazza was like stepping into the pages of a fairytale with its cobblestone streets and the... More

A fabulous little piazza - the lively meeting place for local people. Especially delightful on the weekends when crowds of people greet each other, share animated conversations, children play and the bars and cafes are full.
