A good place to visit on a sunny day. The road is long and remote, with no cell phone signal. A tip: sit and one of the stalls on the beach and eat a pirarucu fried in butter. There is only one bathroom on the premises. The bathroom is paid for! Take cash as you do not accept credit or... More

Ponta dee Pedras Beach is one of the best in the area of Alter do Chao and Santarem. It offers a very good structure, with some good restaurants. The river water is very clean and reminds of Caribbean. It's worth going there for a day. But you have to be aware that the weekends can be a bit crowded. The... More

It's the same way to go to Alter do Chão, but we turn right before into a dirt road. The point is that the entry of Ponta de Pedras is located just at the entry of the road, without any signs before...so we had to be very careful not to pass through. After almost 12 km on dirt road, without any... It's pretty cool to have a beach of clean, warm water as part of the Amazon system. The makeup of the beach changes during rainy season as the Amazon floods, so watch for that.

Warm water that is crystal clear like bath water! At low tide you can put into the ocean for at least a mile and the water is only waste high! Breathtaking!

This is good for a stroll along the epslanade along the front of Santarem - past the markets/shops and past the restuarants - just taking in the Amazon River - you keep thinking it is the sea!!! AMAZING!!!

The beach is beautiful and walking a little farher to the right end, away form the restaurants, there's a beautiful pond separated from the river by few meters of sand (they're probably connected during the rainy season, though).
