As part of a cruise ship excursion, we sailed to the wedding of the waters and up through tributaries of the Amazon. Spotted iguanas, monkeys, sloths...even went piranha fishing! Just an amazing view into daily life in the Amazon.

Our cruise ship arrived at 0700 one morning after cruising up the Amazon River - a superlative sight in its own right - until we met the Tapajos River at Santarem. What a difference! The light bown, slightly "muddy", look of the Amazon River met the dark brown (not clear) waters of the Tapajos River just outside Santarem. It was... More

The Tapajos river is very clear, whereas the the Amazon is very muddy so the two do not mix. The line between them is very clear and worth visiting.

On nay visit to Santarem the meeting of the waters of the rivers Amazonas and Tapajos. Its an interesting sight, one of many similar ones at the confluences of the rivers of the amazon basin

We booked Gil's tour of the jungle and flood plains near Santarem for November 2016. The entire tour was most disappointing. The tour was sold as a small group excursion (maximum 16 people) with Gil as its leader. It promised participants that they would see various animals including pink dolphins. None of what was promised was delivered. The group was... More

I was lucky and was here the end of the dry season so the meeting was close to shore. Defiantly something unique to see.

You will see it better from an air plane, but it is also interesting to watch from a boat. You can follow this for a long distance

I have travelled up the Amazon River before and I have experienced the meeting of the waters a few times. It is one of the must see sights on the Amazon and I find it fascinating to watch the Amazon and Tapajós rivers converge and then flow side by side, without mixing for several kilometers. You can take a boat... More

Everyone should see the meeting of the waters, but don't plan too much time around it. Make your way downtown and climb the steps to the top of the hill that will give you a good view of the differently coloured waters merging. Take a good look, and then carry on with your day.

While the width of the Amazon and the Tapajos rivers varies during the year, it just an amazing sight to see these rivers flow next to each other for miles. The color of the rivers are very noticeable.
