Menorcan history

Access only by guided tour, and you must be there when gate opens at 10, or you don't go. Very interesting and knowledgeable English guide. Took over 2 hours.

The history of Menorca is caught in this visit, but it is for historians or keen amateur historians more than the layman. Great exercise as it is spread-out over a large area.

Although it seems a problem, that there are only two tours a week, this is a must-go place. The guide, a scholar whose name I did not ask, was fantastic! She is a specialist in the history of the castle and the time of British occupation in Menorca. And all for 5€!!!!! After the tour I seriously felt guilty for... More

Walked along the Cami de Cavel tracks from S'Algar to Castillo de San Felipe. The guide was a university lecturer who brought the place to life with descriptions of the seige of the castle. The history of the fort mirrored the islands past.

Peculiar timings, but we went on Thursday at 10am and about 20 people were there with us. Tour guide took us into a small room with chairs and explained some brief history of the fort. (Toilets are at the back of this room). About 30mins later we went out for a 2 hour tour around what is left of the... More

The notice on the gate said it was open Thursdays and Saturdays in June. We walked back on Thursday and were turned away. so went to the excellent Fort Marlborough instead.

After a visit to the Military Museum in Es Castell, we collected a brochure on this castle and decided we would like to see it. We were only staying about 3k away, so we decided we would enjoy the walk. Careful study of the brochure showed that, in October, the castle was only open on Saturdays "a 10h". Accordingly, we... One example of the extraordinary military history that Menorca represents. The scale is huge, the human effort to create it is awesome. Well worth a morning visit

Visited castell de sant felip today with my wife and my two boys 4 and 1. What a great place the tour guide was really informative and did her talks in Spanish and English. We all had a great time in the tunnels and my 4 year old loved it! Defiantly worth a vist!.

Remains of a vast fortress, deliberately destroyed and replaced by La Mola. Visits only on Sundays and Thursdays, as accompanied tours starting 1000 hrs prompt. Much above ground has gone but fascinating tunnels remain and the guide we had was excellent. An essential visit to help understand Menorca's military history.
