Kapiti Island is one of New Zealand's most visited places for bird...

Kapiti Island is one of New Zealand's most visited places for bird watchers. It is an internationally renowned sanctuary and is blessed with an abundance of native and endangered species like Little Spotted Kiwi, Takahe, and the cheeky Kaka who have not survived so well on the mainland. This nature-inspired setting is the perfect place to experience New Zealand's native birds in their natural environment.Kapiti Island is just 40 minutes north of Wellington, New Zealand's capital city.

Activities include half and full day nature tours, overnight Kiwi spotting and rare bird tours. The Maori hospitality you will experience on Kapiti Island - one of New Zealand's most precious nature reserves - is unsurpassed.

Wonderful place, the family who operates the business are warm and friendly, the nature walks are stunning and the birds are everywhere and not shy at all! We learnt a lot from our guide and got a slice of island life. Would visit again. Thank you very much Kapiti Island Tours!

Wonderful experience from booking, boat trip, guided tour, & climb to summit. Comfortable boat, knowledgeable NZ guide, comfortable shelter & challenging climb. Excellent access to birdlife & coastline. Highly recommended.

Excellent trip. Spent 2 days in the Island, well recommended. Minnie was really helpful in rescheduling the trip due to rough weather which ensured everyone's safety and a great experience!

What a fantastically unique experience. So glad we opted for the overnight experience as the extra time allowed us to do walks at both ends of the island (both being quite different from each other) and of course the opportunity to go kiwi spotting at night. Our original trip had been postponed due to weather conditions but this time everything... More

Our only regret was not booking for an overnight experience and nighttime kiwi spotting. We had the luck of a sunny calm day after 13 days of cancellations due to inclement weather. It's a short 20 minute crossing but can be rough in windy weather. Our tour by a Maori guide was informative and educational. We got to spot rare... More

My partner and I really enjoyed our day on Kapiti Island. We opted for just the boat ride and DoC fee trip and we brought our lunch. The wildlife on the island is abundant and we really benefited from the introductory talk and birding tracker they provided. We printed out the history of the island as well as a color... More

Right from the outset this was going to be a unique trip- from being launched into the water from a tractor then having a pilot handle the conditions superbly! Even though we prepared, none of the under 3's on the boat showed any sign of sickness in the rough conditions. The ranger talk was informative and adapted to our group,... More

Kia ora :) sounds like the birds kept you and the young ones on your toes - socked or not socked. The saddleback population is definitely thriving, we're still getting used to how common they've become in parts of the island. Glad to hear they put on a good showing for you. Nga mihi, Manaaki.
