Great Hike, clear path marked with stone piles, don't need guide. Cost for Ojet from Sunset Cottages 65,000IDR (£4). I tipped him more due to heavy rain on the way back. He will drop you & pick you up at arranged time. The trail foot...More

Gunung Egon is a nice dormant volcano. The trail goes through a forest at first then climbs above the tree line and affords lovely views over the sea and surrounding islands. It took us 1.5 hours going up and down. There are several steam vents...More

We decided to get an early start as we hate climbing in the heat. We arrived at the start of the track at 6:00am. We had organised a driver (through our resort in Maumere) and a guide ( a must if you want to get...More

In the hotel we were told that it's better to do the hike with a guide, but in fact, you don't need one as there is just one trail up to Mount Egon. Also, other than most reviews say, we easily found the trailhead: after...More

Getting down the steep upper part is a bit tricky, and I saw younger people using a stick. Contrary to what they make you believe, you do not need a guide. The track is absolutely clear, the only problem is to find the trail head,...More

Make sure you wear appropriate hiking shoes. Bring at least 2-3 liter water per person and clothes to change because it can be quite cold when you reach the top ( you will definitely sweat a lot on the way up)

Climbed this in a small group recently, you need transport (motorbikes best) to take you along terribly rutted roads to the trailhead, and someone really needs to show u where it starts. About 1-1.5 hours up through nice forest before it opens up a bit...More

I have climbed this mountain a few times, and this time didn’t get to the top, because one of our group had a fall, and we had to take her down as she had suffered a concussion. So. The message is, don’t underestimate this small...More

1) The driver knows (even when he tells you otherwise) 2) Use Open STreet maps. Trail is clearly marked, and it's accurate to the meter
