Sweden's 2nd largest lake, and most beautiful. Crystal clear water and accessible to boat-people and bathers alike. Do not miss when travelling in Sweden!

Lake Vättern is one of Swedens most butiful lakes with cristal clear water and many oportunities for a swin (even if the water can be a bit cold). Don't miss a visit in Motala harbour and the long sandy beach Varamon.

The best way to see this lake is on a dinner cruise aboard the M/S King Sverker. We booked the dinner cruise at the last minute and got the last two seats available. We were seated with two lovely couples who were local and shared information about the area. My favorite part of the lake was seeing the island that has been taken over by birds. The entire experience was lovely and it's truly the best way to experience Lake Vattern if you're short on time.

We actually stayed in a cabin right on the lake which was totally wonderful, for ten days! We walked and rode bikes around the lake. It's beautiful and it's easy to find a quiet secluded to relax at. A must do in motala....parks and benches. The best is to have bikes....enjoy!

This place is amazing. I enjoyed long walks around the lake. The nature is just great. I also went fishing and caught a salmon. That was really exciting and I am hoping to do it again. The views are breathtaking.

The water was cold at this time of the year but I am reliably told that the sandy beach is often fully filled in the summer. Especially around the time the great bicycle race (race around the lake) takes place. At this time the population of this small town doubles and the atmosphere is fantastic.

This is a very nice place summer as winter. The water in Vättern is so clear and actually a drinking water reservoir for the neighborhood around the whole lake. My kids love to play near the park and feed the ducks with bread. In the summer it is nice to take of shoes and socks and walk around in the shallow water that's usually cools you down a little. Motala is a small town with many nice restaurants and bars during summer. In the winter it is less tourists but still many nice places to visit. I can recommend the harbor area with the motor museum and restaurants. Motala is a town by the lake with many activities connected to water.

The most southerly alpine lake in Sweden with crystal clear water. It offers fishing, boat trips archipelago, sandy beaches or steep cliffs. We stayed on the Island Visingso which was awesome for anyone who comes from a city and wants to get away from it all. The main form of transport (and best) to hire is bicycles. We had a fantastic time just getting away from the bustle of city life to walking in the woods to relaxing around the bar-b-que watching the sun set.
