I always wanted to watch a lock working and baits being raised up levels. This was fantastic to see and we were really lucky to see 4 yachts being lifted up the levels - loved it

The locks at Borenhults are spectacular in the difference in elevation they have to bridge. Even when you can not actually observe a ship passing through the locks, it is still worthwhile to take a stroll along the 5 locks and descend to the lower level of the Vattern lake. The scenery and the views are spectacular.

It is exciting to watch the boats going up or down the locks. It is hard work to do the ropes right and to keep the boat tight during the locking upwards.

Beautiful big old locks and a popular tourist spot. They have yummy ice cream and it’s interesting to sit down for a while and watch all sizes of boats going up or down the 5 locks.

5 locks covering 15+ meters. Impressive and run by young summer employees. Great scenery that attracts many by-passers. Do come to watch!

In Borenshult the boats take a big step up or down the locks. Very beautiful scenery in the transition between Lake Boren and Vättern. This is Göta Channel's second largest canal lock staircase consisting of five locks with a total fall height of 15.3 meters. Here you can enjoy boats that pass by when you sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or a ice cream in your hand. Here you can also play miniature golf.

The main reason we came to Motala was to experience the Gota Kanal and specifically to experience the steepest locks on the canal at Borenshult slussar. We booked passage on the M/S King Sverker and lodging at the Hotel Nostalgi and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Watching the locks and experiencing the locks was a very special experience that we will cherish forever. This is the most beautiful part of Sweden countryside we've experienced so far!

The locks were built the years 1823–1825 and is a part of the Blue Ribbon of Sweden - Göta canal. Along the canal there are wonderfully scenic paths to walk but at the shore of the lake Boren you will find one of my favorite spots in Motala.

The flight of locks gives the perfect stop for an ice-cream break a sunny day in summer. The boats passing the locks is a pretty interesting sight... entertainment if you think it is fun to watch other people work. Also, remember to be amazed by the awesome engineering that took place to build the locks. If you think it is lame to watch boats (for the record, it is not) you can play miniature golf instead (which is more lame than boats).

Anyhow, if you find yourself in Motala, Borenshults slussar is a great spot for a picnic. Its tranquil environment will lower your blood pressure unless you are afraid of water. (Avoid taking a dip in or drink the water in the canal - it is nasty!)
