Steve Duffield is an expert birder and knows the best birding spots throughout the Uists. We saw numerous resident and migrating bird species. In our 3 days of birding we covered most of N. Uist, Berneray, Benbecula, and half of S. Uist. Many of the good spots are accessible only by rough tracks and/or a short walk, so a guide... More

We had a great day out with Steve. I am not a big birdwatcher but my partner is but he managed to keep both of us really happy. Steve prepared lunch for us which we really enjoyed – Eggs from his own chickens and great salad sandwiches! Steve was very friendly and even though it was low season for birds... More

We had a brilliant day out with Steve. He was friendly, very knowledgeable and helpful. We were lucky with the weather but we saw all the local birds of prey, as well as otters and seals. We saw both golden and white tailed Eagles. We saw a peregrine just after it took a seagull and then proceeded to remove it... More

My husband wanted birds and otters and by golly he got them! A fabulous day out, Steve is, as has already been noted, very knowledgeable and a lovely guy to boot. We saw waders and other small birds too numerous to name, as well as 3 sea eagles, a golden eagle, a hen harrier and a merlin. The highlight was... More

A week ago we spent a fantastic day with Steve - the weather wasn't great but we think that made our job easier. We saw plenty of short eared owls and hen harriers, a corn bunting, golden and sea eagles as well as our best ever view of otters playing. Steve knew EXACTLY where to try and look for the... More

Steve is incredibly knowledgeable both about the birds, mammals, flora and insects that inhabit the Uists and also about the best places to find and view them. Every day was different and special. We learnt and saw so much and would love to return.

I often book a day's wildlife tour when I visit new places in the UK and this was one of the best I've had. Steve is a great chap and showed me around both Benbecula and South Uist gaining me great views of much of the wildlife. He has extensive knowledge of the area, its nature and where best to... More

I wanted otters and after years of searching unsuccessfully, decided that this holiday it was going to happen. Steve found us otters not once but twice, in addition to divers, harriers, golden eagles, peregrines, skuas, terns not to mentions the flowers, deer and moths. His knowledge of where and what is enormous, but he never makes you feel inadequate when... More

Thank you Steve for making me most welcome and for giving me a day I will never forget. Not only for spotting birds but the flowers as well. A day out with you is a must if visiting the Outer Hebrides as you discover birds, flowers and paths you may not find yourself. Our patience was rewarded in the end... More

No better introduction to the wildlife of the Uists and Benbecula than with Steve. He makes the most of every opportunity on each trip - and this was our third with him (individual days rather than the week long trips that is). The group sizes are very small compared with other areas like Mull, so that this time we were... More
