I took that same photo that heads up this blog. My wife's heritage is Sicilian and my in laws were devoted to the Three saints. Every year in my home town in Australia there is a festival for the Three Saints, but this Sanctuary blows that out of the water.
The alters and artefacts are intricate works of art and the Three Saints would certainly be proud of.
But you must visit the Sanctuary of Miracles in the church. There are hundreds of drawings and hand painted of miracles of the Three Saints Accidents , Diseases and many more. Its amazing to see and read.
Also a section on artificial limbs of all sorts that people wore and then no longer required them because of a miracle. It's amazing to read.
You could spend hours here, if you wished to read and involve yourself in this miraculous transition.
OkOk I know what your saying. You don't have to be a believer to actually see what other people believe in and the magnitude of what's there. It's just not a co-incidence.
Must see place.

I visited Trecastagni on May 10 with a group to attend the garlic festival. Our tour guide explained that May 10 was the culmination of several days of religious celebrations to honor the Holy Martyrs (brothers) Alfio, Philadelphius, and Cirino. The town has held this celebration (festa) since the 1500s. Santuario Santi Martiri Alfio Filadelfio e Cirino is the church built for these three saints. The three brothers were martyred by the Romans on May 10, ~ 253 A.D. for refusing to renounce their Christian faith. Legend states that they traveled from Messina to Lentini, where they were killed. Along the way, miracles were attributed to them. They stopped overnight at a small town later named Trecastagni, derived from the Latin "tres casti agni" or "three chaste lambs." Even after death, many miracles were attributed to their intercession.

The church building is relatively small; expect more of a parish church than a cathedral. What it lacked for size it made up for congregants. It was fascinating to see devotees with their big candles crowd around to place their offering. Fortunately, there were two attendants present, to ensure that the candle fires did not go out of control. I did not stay for Mass and only saw part of the religious procession through town after. All in all, it was a memorable experience in Trecastagni, although I'm still unsure about the tie-in to garlic.
