「バルトの楽園(日本2006年)」という映画を見ていたので、その実話の資料となる展示物に触れるのは、とてもいい体験となりました。それでも、なぜドイツ兵が日本に捕虜として連れられたのか、今回改めて学んで驚きました。当時は日本の各地に捕虜収容施設があったようですが、ここまで地元の人と仲良く共存し、自治を尊重された施設は珍しかったのではないでしょうか。たぶん、捕虜と言うと悲しいエピソードが多かったからこそ、この坂東捕虜収容所の歴史が際立ったのだと思いますが、こういう美談もあったのだとすると、日本人として救われた気分になります。展示物を1つずつじっくりと見ていくととても勉強になり、また、自分の無知に反省します。欲を言うと、少しにぎやかさが欲しかったかな。ドイツのグッズなどを売るお店やドイツビールが飲めるスタンドとか、何かライブ感のあるお店なんかがあったらもっとステキなんだけど。でも、建物が美しく、周りの緑もさわやかなので、季節がよければ散策にもいい場所だと思います。隣接する道の駅「第九の里」の物産館は、板東俘虜収容所で実際に兵舎として使われていた建物だそうです。 If you want to know and study a heartwarming story held in Tokushima, Japan just after the end of World War I, it's a good place to visit.
