A historic home, bird sanctuary, park, and museum all in one, located in the house of writer and Nobel Prize finalist Baroness Karen Blixen (in the US and UK, Isak Dinesen), known especially for "Out of Africa" and "Seven Gothic Tales". The museum not only maintains the 17th century house, Blixen's furnishings, and the park, but regularly hosts exhibitions related to Blixen's life and work in Kenya and Denmark. Recent exhibitions have included an exhibition "HER" by internationally acclaimed artist Candice Breitz about Meryl Streep's career.

Having loved "out of Africa" and Babette's Feast I made sure we visited Karen Blixen's childhood and later adult home a short train ride from Copenhagen. A lovely walk from station takes you through a small Forrest past her burial site and onto the house....More

Short intro before walking around in Blixen's house. Very interesting film and posters about her life. Bought some of her books for summer reading

A must for fans of Karen Blixen. Well preserved house of the writer and artist. Just north of Copenhagen. A bit tricky to get there by public transport. Entrance fee 150kr. Lovely cafe.

Nice museum with a lot of african artefacts, guided tour only. Perfect location by the see, nice old house with large garden, nice walks around. Perfect coffee and small dishes inside the house.

I do love Karen Blixen, so this was a 'must' for me, but I do recommend a visit: it's a lovely place, full of inspiration. Have a walk there and you will be surrounded by the blissful spirit of Karen.
