The Guánica State Forest & Bioshpere Reserve (Bosque Estatal de Guánica, in Spanish) is an great example of a dry forest, as compared to the rain forests found elsewhere on the island. Covering almost 1,000 acres, it has been designated as a United Nations International Biosphere Reserve. The forest offers many well-maintained trails and is a bird-watcher’s paradise.

My family and I enjoyed the drive through the dry forest. From Ponce, the drive was about 45 minutes. I only rated it a 4 because there weren’t many places to pull off the road to enjoy the views. Great if you had a bicycle...More

Guanica is the driest part of Puerto Rico. The flora and fauna of the Park is fascinating. Lots of birds, lots of succulents, and a few cactus. The views of the Caribbean are to die for. There are a number of trails, some longer and...More

We took Route 333 a few kilometers until we saw a closed gate in front of us as the road curved to the left -- around the curve you'll see gravel parking on the left (enough for 3-4 cars). We parked there and walked up...More

We read many reviews and some blogs about the dry forest hikes before going, and so many rang true when we embarked. We ended up completing an eight-mile section starting at a gravel pull-off around km marker 3.1 on route 333. It did not appear...More

Guanica as a city and the surrounding area including the dry forest is a lovely place to visit by car and also hike. There are nice beaches in the area and great places to eat pork as you drive through the side roads.

This is a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiast, hikers, explorers. Not a lot of publicity for this top notch attraction. Travel first to the information booth at the top of a mountain to get a map to trails and spots. Signage in town takes you...More

We decided to explore the Dry Forest, specifically Fuerte Caprón. Most of the reviews or news tell you that to reach to the fort you must walk like 25 minutes which is totally wrong. Once we arrived to the parking area, we signed into a...More

We visited Guanica's Dry Forest last February. We arrive by afternoon and we're only able to walk one trail, which I don't remember the name. February is one of the coldest months in PR, yet in this forest it was very hot, as usual. We...More
