This was part of the half day hiking tour with Cat Ba Ventures. I didn’t know what to expect on this part, our guide was able to give an overview and explanation of all of the rooms. The models and furniture are a bit basic but do help with understanding. The guide was able to offer some personal family experiences of the war which gave a much better insight, without which the museum alone lacks some interpretation of what you are seeing. This is a great attraction and could be better.

Hospital Cave is really interesting to see. But, it would be nice if there was some additional signage or information about the site. Since we were not traveling with a tour guide, we really just observed the cave and tried to imagine what it was all about from the short description in the online guidebook. We were even traveling with Vietnamese friends so the issue was language but lack of a sense of value in telling the story of the cave.

But, even without a great deal of explanation, it's totally worth visiting the cave just to see the scale and the organization of this hospital. It's in three levels and even has a swimming pool! There are some mannequins set up that bring some life to the place even without signage.

Of note, this place is accessible at the top of some very steep steps!

We visited the cave during our short motorbike trip across the Cat Ba Island.
There are several caves at the island. We just saw only this one. It is quite interesting to see. You going up to the cave entrance and the guy , who is checking the tickets is telling you few words about the history.

A cave, despite what ihas in it,Definitely requires more explanatory sign postage.
Most of the travelers there, were loners like us,not on guided tours.
There could be much more learnt about it.
Medical services provided, how many peiple were in it at a given time, how long were they there.
iIt does not need more items things in it, but being in it with greater commentary provided can lead to a more enlightening experience. If you donot kniw anything about the war.one cannot leaarn much here.It is not self explantory...

We rented motor scooters from our hotel to take a day trip around the island. First stop was the famous ‘Hospital Cave’ used as an actual war hospital. It is not expensive to visit and only takes less than an hour to see the whole thing. I guess if you are a war buff and that kind of history interests you than you will like it. I liked the next Cave we visited much more.

Most the rooms are empty or just have a bed frame in them. Very little to no information about what the rooms housed, what happened here etc. We could only guess it was from the Vietnam America war? Fair few steep slippery steps to climb up too. Bonus that the loo had loo roll. Bazinga.

Not worth the trip, we stayed for 10/15 minutes only. There are no explanation about when it was in operation, about how many people were working there or how many people were treated. Some rooms have a name but for others we don’t even know how they were used. The 3rd floor is not accessible right now.
Definitely a poor visit for us.

This is brilliant to visit if you are interested in history. Knowing that the cave was used as an active hospital during the american-vietnam war helps to understand what the war really meant to the Vietnamese.

Definitely visit this cave for that reason.

A short scooter ride from Cat Ba town is the Hospital cave.
This was used during the war to treat locals wounded from the U.S. Bombings.
It's a fully concreted building constructed inside the cave and was never discovered by the U.S. during the war. It's no wonder the North won the war.
Check it out, it's definatety worth it.

Nice guided tour, it's fairly short but he gives you all the info you need. The view when you exit the cave is very nice aswell.
