My wife, daughter and I spent the day horseback riding in this beautiful location. The horses were well mannered, and the scenery spectacular. We crossed a number of creeks and saw tailings from the gold mining days, which reminded me of northern California. Our guide and owner Fiona was very pleasant and competent with an eye on safety at all... More

Well chosen horses for each rider. Fiona is a very experienced and safety conscious horsewoman. She also goes to great lengths to look after everyone, lending us boots, helmets, even safe little bags for our cameras. The farm is on the edge of the National Park so our rides took us up and down totally unspoilt landscapes. Excellent picnics appeared... More

Couldn't have had a more perfect holiday! From hosts to horses, riding to lodgings, everything was top notch. Each day was carefully considered and planned out by Fionna. She took the time to take care of details and added special touches to each day. The cabin and bush bath were amazing for relaxation at the end of each day. The... More

I had a great 3 day ride with Fiona at Baton Run. Great horses, stunning countryside, lovely food. The cabin was simply lovely. Baton Run was the best part of my trip to New Zealand! Thanks very much!

Amazing day out with Fiona and our wonderful steeds for the day. The location and the trek was something out of dreams, to canter up over a rise and see 360 degree panoramic views was truly awesome.... then to drop down into the valley through the old mining settlement and to pick wild cherries from the trees as you rode... The owner of Stonefly Lodge, where we were staying, arranged this for me. I am a what you might call a destination rider. I usually only ride when I am on vacation somewhere. I have done Dude ranches in Wyoming and California, and beautiful trail rides in Hawaii, Colorado, Idaho, and dozens of other places. This was by far the... More

We stayed just one night at The Baton. We would have loved to extended the stay. The short visit included a fabulous ride to give us an overview of the fantastic farm and mountain landscape and set up. We enjoyed the outside fire, the stories and poems, the rides ( with the 4 wheeler and on horse back of course... More

I went on more than one horse trek during my visit to New Zealand. This one was by far the best. Fiona is a great host (I stayed over one night at the property and enjoyed the food and company). Fiona's horses are all very reliable and she took great care to select a horse that would give the rider... More

We couldn't have had a better trek, Fiona and Pip went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. The horses were well matched to us, the days were varied and the food was amazing. The cottage we stayed in was so comfortable and we enjoyed the peace and quiet along with the fantastic scenery

Fiona expertly matched us with the perfect horse for each of us. What an incredible way to see New Zealand and experience rural life. The "guest hut" was beautiful, peaceful, comfortable. Great company on well planned daily treks that weren't dumbed down and yet not beyond our ability. Definitely recommend this experience as the perfect way to see New Zealand.
