Great spot for viewing wildlife. Stand in total silence and hear nature at work. Easy parking, close to main road. Optional 3k walk on the paths plus / or just use the great viewing point. Recommended. See photos.

We have been to the Galapagos and the Amazon and this is the best spot for bird watching I have ever visited.

Good bird blind just a short walk from the car park. Lotsa birds to be seen from the large undercover blind. We were in a group of 35 and had ample room. Hot day and I took my hat off and hung it from a protruding bolt. It may still be there!

Great viewing platform out of the harsh sun. Suggest you time the 3 km lake walk to complete before 10 am so you dont get sizzled. Kakadu Bird Week is 5 star

This was one of the few billabongs/swamps that could be visited on your own while we were in the park in late September/early October. Many trails were closed due to the recent rains, although some apparently were never reopened this year. This area has a nice bird blind/lookout overlooking the large lagoon. If you go early you can see more... More

The lady at the Bowali Visitor Centre told me about this place and it was awesome! They have a beautiful bird hide with some informative artwork and displays and you can get up close to the birds in the billabong.

We stopped in at the Mamukala Billabong on our way from Jabiru to Darwin. We were there just after sunrise and the sky was full of birds, there were thousands of them, it was very cool to see. Definitely a bird-watchers paradise, easy access, some good hides you can use and plenty of great photo ops. We could have spent... More

We stopped for lunch here on way to Jabiru and I'm glad we did. A short walk from carpark and an excellent bird hide allowing great views of the wetlands which were alive with life. Beautiful opportunity for photos.

If you want to see birdlife in action, go during the late dry season (September) and/or very early in the morning -preferably see the sunrise there. We could not get there before 10am, coming from Darwin the same morning and it was already too hot for most wildlife. A word of warning: be ready for mosquitoes, many mosquitoes.
