The Mitad del Mundo monument is located in the outskirts of Quito. It's a nice little park with good artisan shops, restaurants and activities. The main attraction is the monument celebrating the equatorial line. The entry fee is about $4 if you do not sign up for any of the activities or "free" chocolate bar. Otherwise, the entry fee is... Lots to learn here as well, but we preferred Intinan. This attraction is basically a city located on the historical equator line. There are lots of little buildings to go into to learn about the French studies done in Ecuador. Cute, hand painted hummingbird benches were neat!

Situated about 15 km north of Quito, Mitad del Mundo is where latitude 0° is located. A monument in the park marks the exact location of the "equator line", which corresponds to latitude 0°. There is a charge to enter the park - US$ 7.50 for adults for full entry which gives you access to all of the park's areas.... More

If you are in Quito you should take a day trip to see the Monument at the Middle of the world. If you have time you should go to the Intinan Museum also that supposed to be the real Mitad del Mundo. Great place!

In order to get there you must get a taxi since it's about 45 minutes away from Quito. Once there, you must pay $7.50 for the full pass, trust me it is worth it, especially if you are bringing kids. Once inside, you will be able to see house replicas from the Amazon, Sierra, and some others. There is plenty... More

The draw is basically saying you have been there, haha. But it is worth a stop - not far out of the city of Quito.

It's a bit corny/touristy, but the area is quite beautiful, and the view from the top of the monument is very good.

If you want the realllll middle of the world you need to drive 20-30 north of the "mitad de mundo" site. Cala Cali has the real statue and real location ! It's definitely worth seeing! #crossroads

Our group stopped by briefly on our way back from the true "middle of the earth" museum (Museo de Sitio Intinan) and snapped the obligatory (but still very cool) pictures. The park surrounding the monument was pretty and had several attractions and restaurants, but a quick half hour visit was more than enough to take it all in. $3.50 was... More
