RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre sits amidst the stunning Caledonian pineforest, just a short walk from the shores of beautiful Loch Garten. The centre is open every day from April 1 to the first weekend in September, though the rest of the reserve is open all year round. It opens at 10am till 6.00pm, and last entry is at 5.00pm. There is a viewing area in the centre, with binoculars and telescopes to view the ospreys and other wildlife, plus live hi-definition CCTV pictures to give really good close up views of the birds on the nest. Red squirrels can often be seen on our feeders and a large array of small birds visit too. There are always knowledgeable and friendly staff and volunteers on hand to help you make the most of your visit and presentations on the previous year's osprey season are also given. There are activities and games for children both in the centre and on the walk up from the car park. The Osprey Centre shop stocks binoculars and telescopes, gifts, toys, cards, hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. There are picnic benches and garden benches outside if the weather allows! Two beautiful woodland walks take you through magnificent pine forest to tranquil Loch Garten and Loch Mallachie - one accessed from the Osprey Centre car park and the other from the nearby Loch Mallachie car park.

I'd heard that we were unlikely to see ospreys but still found their absence a bit disappointing. Nature will not perform for our pleasure, it's been a turbulent year for these birds. Still nice to visit, bird/squirrel feeders aplenty. We saw a young deer hiding...More

Thanks for visiting and for your review Brinylobster (you were out of your usual habitat by the sound of things!) Yes, a shame about the ospreys, but as you rightly say, that's nature and these are wild birds, free to live their wild lives. Finger...More

We visited this area specifically to go to this RSPB centre to see the Ospreys and other wildlife around and were not disappointed. Unfortunately, on our visit we found that the male osprey had disappeared several days earlier and all the chicks had perished. The...More

Thanks for your review! We're delighted you enjoyed your visit, despite the sad circumstances of the ospreys at the time. Fingers crossed they'll have a better season next year. Please come again!

As this year the Ospreys didn't breed successfully here, there were no chicks on the nest, and only one adult (EJ) in the area. Unfortunately when we visited she was not within sight of the hide, or of any of the CCTV cameras covering the...More

Thanks Adam, I'm sorry there were no ospreys around - it's been a tough season. I]m pleased you enjoyed the walks and managed to see lots of other wildlife. Abernethy is home to nearly 5,000 species, so there's always plenty to see!

Great visit - knowledgable, enthusiastic staff keen to share their joy on the area. Could have stared down the telescope for hours watching the wee birds on the feeders. No osprey sighting for us :-( So will have to come back again :-)

The pathway to the centre is level and hard packed dirt. There is disabled parking and the telescopes on the ospreys are set at different heights. The RSPB tries very hard to accommodate people with different abilities... More
