A mine of information
Sep 2021
This is a very educational museum that covers quite a large area and there is a lot of reading to do in each of the huts. I would suggest at least 3 hours to do it justice. Light refreshments are available. All the huts are accessible for people with mobility problems.

A Brilliant Museum
Oct 2021
I cannot praise this museum enough, the fact that the site is of historical importance is one thing but what they've done inside the original huts is amazing. Well over 20 individual huts each having a particular theme. Well laid out and very informative in all cases. Great for anyone with an interest in our recent past and memory provoking for older visitors. The site also has an excellent cafe and toilet facilities and a kids play area. There's truly something for everyone here.

Brilliant family day out as always
Oct 2021 • Family
Another brilliant day at Eden Camp with enough to keep the teenager interested too! The staff were warm and friendly as always. For us this is always a must do part of a holiday to Yorkshire, and our daughter asked to go this year. It’s quieter than most attractions around and right up our street. We did hear some people complaining about the wait for hut one - so our tip is start at the alternative start hut as suggested! We always do and it never spoils the day.
One little thing - I did miss the live puppet show! I understand the pros for prerecording but felt it looses something - although I still sang along with every word and recalled all the fond memories of my grandparents as I did.
Thank you for another brilliant day!

Shambolic Sandbagging
Oct 2021 • Family
Like a magical trip back in time. Lots of huts filled with various displays entering and educating us all about previous conflicts and wars.

Unfortunately whoever was in charge of the sand bagging let the team down. Sandbags were incorrectly filled, most Sandbags were facing the wrong way with the seams facing out towards the enemy. The opening of the Sandbags weren't tied properly and not tucked underneath or fully butted up to the next Sandbag.

Attention to detail!

Hello there, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review and we're glad to see you enjoyed our visit to the point you felt it was "magical" - we think so too! It is a shame that you felt so strongly about our sandbagging techniques that you deemed 1 star an appropriate scoring, which is detrimental to our reputation especially when you enjoyed your visit. Our attention to detail is greatly important to us and the sandbags we use for external aesthetics are true to form from the 1940s, where their purpose was to save lives, not look neat; hence your feeling of travelling back in time. We're glad it worked! Many thanks!

Disappointing - not what I remember
Oct 2021
Unfortunately, after 'bigging' this place up to my partner it fell quite a way short of what I remember it being, as a younger child.

After receiving an email informing us there would be a school trip there, but that they are normally gone by 2pm, we decided to get there a little later than originally planned. Unfortunately the place was still over-run with loud, shouty kids who were doing their best to compete with each other at being the loudest and most annoying.
(Not the fault of Eden, but didn't help my experience).

The exhibits were very...dull. There were no interactive sections for my 8 year old to try and learn anything, except a large map which lit up a tiny led when you pressed a button (providing you pressed one of the few that were still working). Far too much reading for anyone under the age of 60 - unfortunately this age group love to stand in the tiny aisles and read every last bit of info in-front of them, meaning you either had to squeeze past or wait until they'd finished.

I remember being a little in awe at the noise and smoke, vibrating floors etc. as a child...none of this anymore.
None of the warnings at the hut entrances (warning: strobe lights, noise etc) actually meant anything as there were no strobe lights or particularly loud noises (at least these could have gave some excitement).
The submarine hut was the only one which gave a tiny insight into 'what used to be'.
The restaurant was overpriced for what was on offer, and little to no filling in the pastries (although the cake was very good).

In the end we spent more time running around the 'POW exercise camp', in order to try and burn off some energy before going home, than actually going around the exhibits.

Unfortunately we were all (my mum & stepdad included) a little deflated by this experience, which we remember used to play a pivotal role in our mini breaks to Flamingo land.

Great experience
Oct 2021 • Family
We went at a weekend which was perfect as not too busy. Lots to see, read and experience. We loved all singing in the Vera Lynn music hall and the bunkers were really atmospheric. We were a family 8 years to 66 years and all enjoyed plus a great history lesson

Disappointed
Oct 2021 • Family
After pre booking we went on 20th October and was very disappointed to find it was impossible to view a hut any hut unless you were prepared to view with at least 20 to 40 school children. I have raised this with Eden Camp and have been offered a free visit within a year but we were on holiday and will find it difficult to revisit in term time. If you want to look round leisurely then don’t go unless it’s school holidays

Brilliant museum
Oct 2021
Really good museum packed full of interesting exhibits and information. Some bunkers have recreated the inside of a WW2 submarine or a WW1 trench and there are loads of other 'real life' exhibits dressed up with shop dummies so there is plenty to see. Alongside those there is tonnes of carefully curated information touching on what seems like every aspect of war: the history of WW2, year by year, features on the home front such as the air defences, the land army and Bevan boys and loads more. The museum was well looked after and the cafe was good for a quick coffee and sausage roll. Some of the shop dummy exhibits are looking a little tired but that is being picky; overall a hugely impressive privately owned and run collection.

Disappointing experience
Oct 2021 • Couples
I visited yesterday with my husband, I have never been before and was extremely disappointed. We were told it was not busy but this was not the case. The museum was well kept and interesting but other than a one way system no other Covid restrictions were in place.
I appreciate these are not mandatory now but I feel the camp should take some responsibility. There was a small sign on reception advising masks but very very few people did. Especially as we are encouraged by to wear masks in crowded places. People were packing into some of the bunkers like sardines. There were a number of school trips who on the whole were well behaved but in one of the already full bunkers children were pushing through.
There appeared to be no one monitoring the situation. There could be Marshall’s ensuring the bunkers were not too full or at the very least numbers on the doors advising of the capacity.
This spoilt what should have been an enjoyable experience. We did manage to find some quieter places so it was not entirely a waste of money.

A great day out, would highly recommend.

Such an interesting & informative place, you definitely need more than one visit. From the music creating a real 40s atmosphere to displays in the old POW huts showing life at home & abroad during World War Two, there is something for everyone. Plenty of free parking, friendly staff & great value; its a brilliant day out for all ages.
