Amazing wildlife

Hire a kayak and explore the shores of Tonga Island while keeping an eye on wildlife. You can spot seals and seabirds... I have seen a Reef Heron in these waters.

There are lots of kayaking tours in the Abel Tasman area, and we opted for one that took us from Tonga Island to Bark Bay. Lots of wildlife to be seen, especially seals, but also some penguins. On the day we visited it was sunny and calm, and it was amazing to be out on the water. Beautiful place to... More

Flawless! Well looked after and respected by locals. Although there are quite a few people who come here during the season it is always made evident that respect is needed around the reserve. Surrounding beaches are spectacular! Such a beautiful and peaceful place.

This marine reserve is hard to rate as you can't land on Tonga Island, you can only see it from 20m away as it's protected, but certainly a lovely area and we spotted a few seals from the boat. (Probably best to explore by kayak - unfortunately I was ill so we had to forfeit that trip - next time... More

It is great living near a beautiful and pristine part of New Zealand and this one is the place for a combination of experiences including kayaking, getting up close near the seal sanctuary, viewing the birds and their behavior, as well as other marine and close-in island life. The sea is generally suitable and the tracks are user friendly, plus... More

My husband and I kayaked around the amrine reserve with Wilson's and loved it. It is a beautiful Marine reserve . We were able to kayak in and out of caves and through arches all along the coast and the islands had seals including baby seals basking in the sun and swimming near our kayaks. The water is clean and... More

You can kayak to this reserve and get reasonably close to the seals. Easy access is the advantage. The waters around this reserve are reasonably calm. There are many kayak companies to go with to see this attraction.
