Great thanks to Sub Oceanic team from Fairmont Maldives (=Sirru Fen Fushi), especially to Irina Tatarenko for interesting lessons and wonderful time during scuba diving!

My wife and I recently returned from a two week trip to the Le Meridien and the Sub Oceanic dive shop is fantastic.

Originally, we planned to dive on a few days during our trip but we ending up diving daily due to the great dive sites and outstanding service from Sub Oceanic.

Both of us are experienced divers who have dove numerous locations around the world including Fiji, Mexico, the Caribbean and Hawaii but Sub Oceanic is the best dive shop we have ever visited.

We had a great experience for a few reasons.

First, we dove with the same DM, Chris for our entire trip and he was great finding life including numerous sharks, manta rays, and turtles. By keeping with the same DM for the entire trip we never visited the same dive site twice unless it was by request and we consistently visited great dive sites even if they were lengthy boat ride away. But what's more is that on a few days we were the only divers on the boat so we received both a private DM and private boat, at no additional cost. This made for an exceptional experience because most dive shops would just cancel the trip rather than take two divers on a private boat.

However, the experience was still great even when the boat was full because on those days we still dove with Chris on every dive and any additional divers were all of a similar skill level. Additionally, we dove Nitrox (which is complimentary) during our entire trip and Sub Oceanic never mixed air and Nitrox divers. This was particularly important for our dives because we visited numerous deep dive sites and I don't recall a single dive with less than an hour of bottom time which would have been impossible on air.

But what really put our experience over the top was what transpired on my wife's birthday. During a casual conversation, Chris learned she was celebrating her birthday and out of the blue, he presented her with a lovely birthday card while we were underwater. Later, when we returned to the dock, a birthday cake and Prosecco was waiting for everyone on the boat.

In sum, if you are an experienced scuba diver, Sub Oceanic is awesome.

We were only 7 days in the hotel and had only 3 dives. But the start with the refresher was already great. We saw big turtles and a 1.5 m shark. The assistance by the diveclub team was great nothing was missing. Before the second dive we asked whether it would be possible to see mantaras. But they were deeper than we were allowed to dive. This time we saw then napoleon fishes and other reef fishes. Our last dive was the day before we left. And the diveclub Team had a surprise for us. They took us to the channel where the mantaras come into the lagoon. And we saw one these amazing fishes less than ten meters from us and a lot of other fishes. They took great photos with our equipment and they were helping us wherever possible.

Again thank you to the teamleader and the team at the suboceanic diveclub!

Staying in Fairmont Maldives, we booked some water activities with them. All good and friendly staffs. Sea bobs, kayaking and fishing cruise all went smoothly, specially with kids. Staffs very helpful with small guests and even encourage and help kids to do fishing and then manage to serve fishes for the next day at Raha Market. Totally new concept for us which was worth to try.

The south atoll is a stunning place to dive. Despite the number of dives I have made over the years I still appreciate a professional crew backing me up and Hussain Saanim and his crew gave me superb guidance and showed me a variety of dive sites. Ishmelelaa Beyru had superb, giant fan, rose and plate corals and we had the chance to swim surrounded by a shoal of fish. At Body Hohulha, we saw unbelievably big turtles, one of which had a missing flipper. And of course there are the Mantas, during my stay I saw them three times - one at the cleaning point and on my last dive, 5 were feeding in the Makanda Channel before they floated away into the distance. What a way to go!

This is the only dive centre at Canareef Resort Maldives. It's a well run operation offering a range of dives for different levels.

Early June the place was quiet. There was only myself or two others on the boat for those days I dived. This itself is a good size with plenty of help available. Dive guides were good and knew the area well.

Liked the fact that Nitrox was available as well as prices which for the Maldives were reasonable. Option of having my kit cleaned and stored after a days dive for just over a $1 was especially good value.

If you want a near 100% chance of seeing mantas, sharks and other goodies on your dives but don't want to do a liveaboard this is the place to go.
