Very rich history that goes back a long long time. We visited on the eve of a 5 day celebrations and they are busy decorating the monastery. We're told that the place will be swarmed with thousands of devotees for the next 5 days. One have to take off shoes, no hats, no sunglasses allowed as a sign of respect.

Also known as Lhagang Gompa, the Tagong Temple is a nice example of a typical Tibetan monastery, with its statues, painted walls, thangkas, incents smells and plenty of monks dressed in their carmine robes. At the time of our visit there was a large crowd of locals (about a hundred or more), dressed in their better clothes and camped in... More

It is simply good. A very typical Tibetan style temple. Many lamas in it. The statues and Buddhist wall paintings are marvelous. You can feel and see the spirituality of Tibetan people. I went here in early August. So no ceremony then.

An amazing place which is a must-visit spot when you go to Kangding County, it's very windy and cold as it's winter now and the temple is really stupendous.

This Monastery is worth the visit for its extremely rich history. A temple was built here during Tibet's imperial period, and the rule of the first Dharma King Songtsen Gampo (3 Kings who are commonly credited for ushering Buddhism into Tibet and supporting its growth). This would have been some time around the 7th century and was the furthest out... More

It's a decent enough temple, worth a visit while passing through. The grassplains and mountains in the surrounding area are the real winners.

The old monastery got refurnished. The shining red walls were built, making this monastery looks bigger. There used to be prayer wheels hanging outside of the wall of this monastery and you can see the local Buddhists walking, chanting and turning the wheels all day long. There were three temples in the monastery, I believe there was a temple for... More
