Where the muse resides
May 2019 • Couples
We came to visit this place from Paris. Train ,then a walk until this nice and quite little slice of Heaven where Chateaubriand chose to settle. The building is sobre and well conceived amid a vast sea of green and Majestic trees . A pastoral landscape with some sheep grazing in the field. The house is well decorated with a good taste of furniture, very Romantic.
We were Lucky to assist to one of the conférences on Lord Byron (another poet of the romantic era).It was a surprise that fits well in the atmosphere. A café terrasse with a view on the green field is a soothingf bliss to enjoy some marriage frères TEA after all that nice visit.

Beautiful Well-maintained House in Magnificent Setting
Apr 2019 • Couples
Be sure to visit Chateaubriand's house if you are in the Arboretum. The house itself is well worth the visit. Most rooms are nicely decorated in the original style of the house. The library that is over two floors is quite interesting.

Most magnificent
Oct 2015
Chateaubriand's estate - house and park - in the town of Chatenay-Malabry is magnificent. It is easy to get to from Paris, and you can be sure of spending a few most relaxing hours there.A plus is that the staff members are the friendliest I've come across anywhere.

In the house you can admire the furniture and furnishings: you will see the desk at which Chateaubriand sat to write most of his books, his living room where he entertained his guests, his dining room where his guests enjoyed Chateaubriand Steak, and also his bedroom.

When you've seen the house there is the park for wandering around in and forgetting the world, because its beauty and solitude and tranquility indeed transports one into a heaven.

The place's tearoom is run by a young couple - she is Spanish and he is French - and like the estate's staff members this couple too is most friendly: they will welcome you with open arms and both speak English. The weather permitting you can sit out under the trees. They offer the most delicious cake and fruit tarts at very reasonable prices, and I can let you in on a secret: the young lady bakes these first thing every morning so you can be assured that all is fresh. As they told me, she bakes what is sweet and he bakes what is salty.

You get to Chatenay-Malabry which is 10.8 kms (6.7 miles) from Paris by taking the fast suburban train the RERB2. You go to the end of the line which is the station Robinson in the town of Robinson: it is a train ride which will take you about 25 minutes. (Note there are not toilets on an RER train!) The station lies at the border between the towns of Sceaux and Châtenay-Malabry so that on exiting the station you will be on a square, one road leading from it being in Sceaux and the other road being in Châtenay-Malabry.

Outside the station you need to take Bus No 194: the stop for Chateaubriand's house is Marc Sangnier. Descending the bus you walk along Rue Eugène Sinet which is to your right and after about four or five minutes a Rue Chateaubriand will lead from the left. The house is at No 87 Rue Chateaubriand.

After your visit you return to where you had descended from Bus 194 and you can either return to the Robinson Station to take the RERB2 train back to Paris or you can remain on the bus as it goes all the way to Paris' Porte d'Orleans.

I recommend you get on the RERB2 train at Gare du Nord Railway Station. The Paris transport ticket is not valid for this trip so you will have to buy your ticket at Gare du Nord. You can do so either at a ticket office or from one of the ticket machines which are in different languages. The queue at the ticket office could be a long one so bear this in mind when deciding on when you want to get to Chateaubriand's house.

The admittance fee for the house is €3: admittance to the park is free. For those visitors over 60 or who are retired the admittance fee is half that.

The Maison was not open but the wonderful garden was!
Jul 2014 • Couples
We took a trip yesterday with friends who wanted to show us the Parc de la Vallee-aux-loups which is on the grounds of Maison de Chateaubriand! The trees and flowering plants were great and we explored the garden for over 2 hours! We did visit the exterior of the Maison which was fine but the jardins were the highlight of our visit. Go and see this beautiful jardin and its' Maison as well! No picnicing allowed here by the way!
