Lovely food but .....

Again the place was homely and inviting. After arriving we we seated in a corner which is not a problem and ordered drinks. The drinks arrived promptly and we viewed the menu and choose our dishes, after around half an hour and with no one coming to ask for our food order I had to go to the bar to ask someone to take our order. My girlfriend had scampi and chips and I had seafood linguine and a side of garlic bread. The scampi was of a good size and smelt good and I am assured it tasted good as well.
My linguine was lovely and warm and tasted great and as for the garlic bread ... Absolutely banging ...really good in fact.
After we had eaten and with my girlfriends glass now empty I was assuming someone would ask if we would like more drinks ... Alas this didn't happen so after another 20 minute wait I had to go to the bar for the bill because we had given up on another drink. When I got to the bar the staff seemed more interested in a customer who had just got engaged and when I did get their attention they actually asked where we were seated !!
It's this little attention to details or lack of them that really get my goat up ... I was going to say something but couldn't be bothered ... We are paying customers so please give us the service we expect when dining in the restaurant or you will lose trade quickly !!

A casual evening meal with drinks

A lovely welcoming atmosphere greeted us. We had a couple of IPAs and sat at our table. Not long to wait until a waitress was there to ask if we had decided what to have. I had the Cumberland sausage and mash my friend had chicken curry. Both arrive piping hot and delicious. Good sized portions. This was followed by Apple crumble which was equally proportioned and delicious. Several beers and a double whiskey later we left. Both very satisfied.

Oh dear...
Sep 2019 • Family
We booked a table for 9 in person on Friday evening for 1 30pm, for Sunday lunch, based on the fact that one member of our family had to be dropped at the station for 12 30. We had to leave a deposit of £40 to hold the booking. On Sunday morning there was a train problem so we called and asked if we could change our booking to 12 30 and bring the additional family member. No problem, we were told. When we arrived it was apparent that the message had not been passed on as the table was only set for 9 and had the original time of 1 30. This seemed to be a big problem for the manageress who quoted fire regulations at us as to why she could only seat 9. She then managed to produce another small table so that we could all sit together. There were no other customers there at this point. We got some drinks and were able to order fairly quickly and then we sat there for an hour! One member of our party went down to speak to the manageress and the staff member who had taken the phone call owned up that she had forgotten to pass on the message. She was new, apparently... we finally got some food about 1 hour 20 minutes after arrival. It was not bad but was mostly luke warm and did not all come at once, so some of us had nearly finished by the time the rest received their meals. We did not enjoy it as we then rushed to eat it. When paying the bill, the manageress blamed the new waitress, and the fact that other staff had let her down. We suggested that it would have been good service to have come and spoken to us at the table at which point she took the drinks off the bill. This did not explain why we had to wait so long though! Needless to say, we did not leave a tip. The other staff that served us were very nice but the manageress needs customer service training and needs to provide better training for new members of staff.

A Fantastic Place to spend time.

I must say that I would recommend this establishment in confidence to anyone who was thinking about visiting. It can be busy at times but that is an indication of how good the food and atmosphere is. The staff are very friendly and made myself and my friends very welcome. It is just a very nice place to relax with a lovely ambience. Thanks again all.

First visit, very nice pub, great atmosphere, lovely decor friendly staff, menu a bit pub grub mosh, Shane their were no specials, food took ages to arrive, starters of pate, whitebait were quite nice, main of fajita’s and chicken were poor, chicken dry and over cooked, fajitas small and not pleasant, chicken and onions peppers lacking seasoning, small portions, and exceptionally slow service, approaching two hours from sitting down to getting main courses.

Shame food is poor as it’s a really nice pub

Sunday lunch
Oct 2018 • Couples
Went to this pub for a Sunday lunch. Very busy in the main restaurant/bar area but they have a cosy “garden room” that had a few tables free. Had to wait roughly 20mins for food but that’s how long we were told by the friendly staff.
Food was very nice, 8/10 for sure. Very nice stuffing and gravy, veg was fresh and the roast potatoes were fab. I had the roast duck which was advertised as pink but not really as pink as I would like and the skin wasn’t crispy enough but nice all the same. Have been to similar pubs with similar food and have paid more for the experience so a good all round afternoon. “I’ll be back”

Sunday Lunch - Perfect
Sep 2018 • Couples
Eat out a lot on weekends. Can honestly say this is the best roast Ive had out. Piping hot, pork was tasty and not dry, three huge and beautiful roast potatoes, homemade stuffing and plenty of veg. Asked for extra gravy - not a problem.
Pudding was homemade apple crumble and you could take the butter in the crumble - delicious. Just short of £50 for two ;three course each and a drink. Excellent. Thank you..

Visited the pub for a meal on a weekday evening during early July not only was my duck breast on mango salad really tasty it was also beautifully presented, can’t wait to try more from the menu when I return. Aside from this the service was also top notch with all requests met with a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm, will definitely be going back in the near future.

An intriguing mediaeval pub
May 2018 • Couples
A written history of Ye Olde Whyte Harte Pub points out that the "sign claims the date 1563 ... Parts of the building much older, possibly part of Priory of St. Andrew's in c. 1109". This building is full of charm and intrigue. Beyond the building itself, the food is fantastic. The fish and chips are crispy, and the fish pie is flavorful. Locals gather here for good drinks and good times. The staff is friendly, and even on a busy Friday evening, service was fast.
