If you are into to quickie cinema then this is definitely for you. A two screen local cinema seating 100 in one and about 40 in the other screen. Lovely atmosphere and in the larger screen about a third of the seats are big leather sofas where you can curl up with a tea or coffer you made in the... More

This place has existed as long as i can remember. Today there are two screens, one of them only seats about 40 people. It has sofas at the back for those that arrive early. They show all the latest films but only charge about £4 a seat. Buy your sweets and popcorn there, it's cheap. It is one of those... More

I have been visiting this venue for several years. It is a quaint old style cinema. There are sofas for comfort at the rear ( first come first serve) The down side - it is quite small - but rarely gets busy As there are only 2 screens in an old building the screens are not as loud as I... More

Saw a film in screen two for the first time, ticket and drinks really good value but there are not many seats so please keep it a secret. This is not a massive odeon complex but does the job more than adequately

To my shame, I haven't been here for two years, but I'm very pleased to say that the venue has only improved in that time. The frontage of the cinema gives a false impression of petiteness, but after walking inside screen one, it quickly expands to provide a decent sized screen and rows of seats, approximately 18 seats wide. Both... More

This Art Deco independent cinema is just fab! Two screens and regular screenings make it a great place to go. Get in early and you might even get one of the sofas! Tea and coffee available as well as the usual treats. Ok the sound isn't that great but not too bad either, and for what you pay what do... More

Lovely little independent cinema. So much cheaper than the chain cinemas. You feel like you're sitting in your lounge watching the film. Sound could be better but definitely worth the money. It's not a rip off in any way.

What a little gem went there for the first time last week it's so cosy like walking into your front room only got to screens but it's small and very clean a hidden gem in the back water

A couple of Sundays ago me and my other half we're thinking we might go and see La La land (we wanted to see what all the fuss was about)! As usual we checked the times out for the Odeon, Cineworld and even the new Everyman cinema when I remembered about the Rio! How glad am I that I thought... More

The Rio Cinema is one of life's little known pleasures, other than to residents of Burnham on Crouch. This jewel of the Dengie Penninsula is a pre-war picture house (1931), originally gas lit and was the last cinema to go electric. The interior has been altered in order to house a smaller studio screen to the rear of the main... More
