Riisitunturi National Park represents the fell and hill landscape of Koillismaa district at its best. The most valuable features of Riisitunturi Fell are the colourful hanging bogs on the slopes, and on the top of the fell the breath-taking scenery over the Lakes Kitkajärvet and the forest landscape of Posio. In the snowy forests, trees are covered with ”tykky”, frozen snow deposits, which in the blue moonlight just seem unreal.

I would hate seeing too many tourists in this fantastic environment, so let us start with the negatives first: it is quite a drive, and at this time mid March really cold and windy. You also need a serious hike of at least 3.5km through...More

Without a doubt, an excursion to do in winter. Its location is on a hill, so in winter, the amount of snow is infinite and beautiful. All the trees are full of snow, so they look like figurines (you have to have imagination) but it is beautiful....More

We were there hiking with our snowshoes and it just so happened to be a very bad weather. Snow was coming down on us hard and we couldn't see almost anything. If the weather would have been nice this would have been a better experience!

Riisin rietas trail (10.7km) Great varieties of walks on this trail, up and down hills both on dry and wet areas, forests and meadows. We saw and listened woodpeckers and frogs. The trail was well colour marked on trees and easy to follow. The trail...More

We visited in May, in the late evening. It was raining so the view was not as good as it would otherwise be but it was beautiful nonetheless. Good walking gear is essential although the route is not especially tough, it is very exposed to...More

I loved this place even though it was misty and you couldn't see very far, the snow was immense and the White Queen could easily have come into view. Equally the moving topiary from the Shining were there. Fabulous place.
