Hidden Gem in the Middle of Brittany
Jul 2021
We visited the park and chateau of Trevarez with friends a week ago. I hadn't expected something so beautiful and grandiose. In a way, it reminded me of the current billionaires spending money on their supercharged egos to spend a short time in space. This man used his money to build the ultimate summer home with all the modern conveniences – all that to show off his wealth and power (wealth that he mostly inherited from his wife’s family it seems).
But the history of this place is quite amazing as well - it was commandeered by the Germans and housed German and Japanese soldiers for R&R. Then bombed by the RAF. Since then it was abandoned then restored little by little.
The chateau itself is impressive as are the grounds with an incredible array of hydrangeas.
It is worth a visit to be sure.

Fantastic!

Truly an amazing show. A beautiful place, very kind staff, and quite a serious organizational despite the huge crowd getting in and out of the site.
Thank you :)

An Amazing Building in Beautiful Grounds
Sep 2019
This chateau is stunning to look at and surprising.
Used by the Nazi's in WW2 it was bombed by the RAF and was in ruins for many years.
Externally restored it is quite some piece of architecture.
The surprise is inside where some of the damage has not been repaired and you can see from the ground floor right up to the roof through shattered beams and ceilings. Some rooms have been fully restored and so there is a great contrast within the building.
Outside there are beautiful grounds to walk in. Pick the right time of year and you will be in masses of Hydrangeas and other plants.
There is a good cafe and gift shop.
Plenty of information is in French and English.
A very interesting place to visit.

Amazing
Jul 2019
This was a real surprise because although the front suggests that the chateau is pristine it is a shell inside after it was bombed during the war.We enjoyed seeing it and the view outside was lovely. Try it because it is rather special.

A really good find. Off the beaten track but well worth the detour. Fascinating insight into the impacts of war. Lovely grounds as well to explore.

Magical
Jul 2019 • Family
We arrived shortly after the site opened at 1000hrs. We enjoy visiting country homes, gardens and grounds in the UK so this was perfect for us.
Entry was super cheap for the type of attraction. Car parking was plenty. When you arrived you first make your way to the stables, here there are also toilets and the cafe. After that we had a small picnic in the grounds where you can sneak a peak at the chateau. From here it looked magical already.
As we walked up and got our first proper look it is extremely impressive. It's like a fantasy castle build in the modern era. It is beautiful. The French gardens out the front are also pretty.
Inside is not what you expect. After being bombed during WW2, it stood empty for 30 years until the local government took control and have been slowly renovating. Aspects inside comprise of newly renovated rooms, as it was left & also completely derelict. It is not what you expect from outside. What they are doing here is amazing though and the house is just picturesque. It sits high on a valley so the views are also amazing.
Exploring the grounds is also beautiful. There are also the old walled gardens to explore which are also slowly getting renovated.
This place is a must visit as the history is interesting, the house beautiful and the gardens and grounds great to explore in. We had a 2 year old with us and she loved it.

Amazing castle!
Apr 2019 • Couples
What an amazing castle! We came here on a pretty cloudy day in April and I don’t regret it as the castle is much more fascinating/ frightening with that weather. It could have been used for a horror movie (i.e. The Haunting of Hill House) and the garden for a new version of Alice in Wonderland. I loved it!

Very disappointing visit - no spirit of Christmas at all
Dec 2018 • Couples
In previous years we have enjoyed visiting Trevarez to walk in the grounds and be awed by the Christmas decorations. This year there was based on modern art installations which would be better suited to a different time of year.
There was no appeal for young children and absolutely nothing that you would want to buy - a missed opportunity. It would be an ideal place for a Christmas market.
It would be better to approach next year with a more traditional Christmas theme and consider a complete illuminated circuit of the grounds.
Our own illuminated garden in central Brittany is more impressive than that of Trevarez.
Try putting your customers first!

Lovely and peaceful
May 2018 • Couples
My husband and I visited here today. The gardens were in bloom and the colours spectacular, as too were the plants. The house is definitely worth visiting too and reading about its past. Plenty of parking space and a coffee shop in the stables. Reasonably priced for entry also.
Loved it.

Beautiful grounds impressive chateau
Apr 2018 • Family
We visited last week as a large group of 4 families. Children ranged from 3-10 yeas.

The entrance coat was low. The gardens were stunning and we all enjoyed exploring the waterfalls and fountains.

The chateau was very impressive from the outside and the views from the balcony were amazing.
The house itself is still in the process of being restored and while the sections that were open were interesting we were only inside for around 25 mins.
