"Burg Rheinstein" is nowadays a interesting museum with a long history. There is a restaurant for visitors and if you'd like to a special experience - there two beautiful apartments which can be booked for a overnight stay. The castle "Burg Rheinstein" is located approx. 5 kilometers (approx. 3 miles) westward of Bingen, down the river Rhine, at the south entrance of the UNESCO Cultural Heritage of the Upper Middle-Rhine Valley ("Oberes Mittelrheintal"), face to face with the village of Assmannshausen. The castle was the symbol of the castle-reconstruction period in the 19th century, the so-called Romanticism, because of its impressive location, and also its eventful history had many highlights.

This is a castle that is relatively easy to get to by car, and while parking along the road can be tight at best, it does get you to within easy walking distance. This is an easy castle to explore without a guide or a...More

Great castle easily accessible from the car park below it on the main road. Awesome sweeping views up and down the Rhine valley. We also went to Soonek Castle a touch further north which was cool as well. The road from Bingen north to Koblenz...More

We bought the Romantic Tour €20 each which included the cable car ride over the vineyards, the chair lift down to Assmannshausen, the boat ride across to the castle and then the return trip back to Rudesheim by boat. So after the cable car we...More

Another great example of a medieval castle directly on the Rhein. Easy self-guided tour was very interesting and relaxing. Our second favorite castle after Burg Reichenstein

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this lovely castle. Car parking here is easy and is along the main road at the base of the castle. Consequently, to visit the castle you have a steep 5 minute hike up. Visiting this castle is not via...More

I recently visited Burg Rheinstein with Stan from Privatour.com. The walk up is a good workout but the castle is well worth it. A family purchased it in the 70s and worked hard to restore it. They did an amazing job with the structure and...More

My wife and I were driving along the Rhine from Bacharach to Rothenburg and happened to see the sign for Rheinstein, so we pulled into the parking lot at the bottom of the hill and decided to give it a go. This turned out to...More

This is one of the few castles where you can take pictures. There is no tour guide so you go at you own pace. What beautiful scenes of the Rhine and the countryside. Be sure to go here.
