At the doorstep of the historical village of Pamplemousses, within the Beau Plan estate, an old sugar factory houses a cultural, recreational and gourmet experience; it recalls the adventure of sugar which has left a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius. L'Aventure du Sucre invites you to a superb and interactive tour along the pathways of history and into the heart of Mauritius and its cultures. You will explore the memories of an era that will never stop travelling your mind. Each episode, each anecdote unveils the magic world of sugar. The tour is at the same time amazing, mesmerizing and enriching. L'Aventure du Sucre keeps the best to last : the tasting of the best of the Mauritian sugar industry, 12 unrefined natural sugars kept for export and having their own colour, texture and taste. You will also taste 9 New Grove rums which is the outcome of a meticulous manufacturing process. A shaded and charming restaurant greets the visitor with a sophisticated cuisine that brings together the savours of the island. These gourmet temptations are followed by a succession of homemade desserts made with natural sugars sists of an eco-museum, a boutique and a restaurant. Opening hours : 9am - 5pm.Seven days a week except on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 and 2 January.

Ended up there by accident, were looking for a restaurant. The restaurant attched to this museum is not so cosy, want to make a very chique impression but the dinner room looks more like a school cafeteria. Anyway visited the museum, expensive entrance fee, not...More

This is a must place to visit. It has a great setting (being a disused factory with all the original equipment and machinery) , with large gardens , a wonderful restaurant, snack area and shops for souvenir and rum / sugar tasting. However, it has...More

You may want to allocate a minimum of two hours for this experience, more if you really want to understand the history of the island, and the history of sugar. There is plenty of text and short films in the museum The end was obviously...More

Thank you so much for your kind review. Your support is very important to us. Your testimony encourages us to keep on sharing our Mauritian heritage closely related to the sugar cane. Many thanks again on behalf of the entire team.

As someone else said - information overload and far too detailed (even for history buffs). This is a text-heavy tour of the sugar-making journey, with hundreds of individual placards telling the story. The tour goes very, very deep into every element of sugar-making history, with...More

The bus doesn't go directly to the entrance. You'd need to take a bus to the Pamplemousses roundabout and walk to it from there. That would take no more than 10 minutes.
