We visited this palace, which was completely restored after WWII, during our visit to St Petersburg. An amazing spectacle that demonstrates the wealth and power of the Russian Tsars.

Another gilt ridden palace, very Roccocco and decorated to impress. Surrounding parkland looked so pretty in the fresh snow, like I imagine Russian landscape to look. The amber room is fantastical, overdone, but that was the style.

Spectacular displays of how the Romanovs lived. The Amber room is the highlight. Good cafe on site. Picturesque setting in the snow but watch the road outside, can be icy and slippery.

A truly spectacular building. Lots of similarities with Versailles in France. We were lucky to visit in the low season with few people around and enjoyed some of the rooms on our own. However the weather meant we couldn't wonder the grounds which looked beautiful. We had a local guide with us who explained the history of the palace and... More

Catherine Palace is located 30km south of St Petersburg's CBD. Named after Catherine the 1st, wife of Peter the Great, it originated in 1717 and was the summer residence of the Russian Tsars. The hugely ornate, and expensive, rococo palace was destroyed by the Germans when they retreated from their siege of Leningrad/St Petersburg in WW2. The Palace is still... More

Just one of many awesome palaces in and around St Petersburg but it is here that the opulence of the Tsarist regime really strikes home. The splendour of a bygone age are simply dumbfounding. An absolute must visit.

If you visit St. Petersburg make certain you go to Catherine's Palace and don't miss the Amber Room. Although you won't be disappointed with any of the rooms inside Catherine' Palace. The gardens out back are well cared for and beautiful. Another gem of St. Petersburg, Russia. We were lucky our visit was punctuated with a clear blue sky.

We visited this palace within a tour we booked at a cruise ship, as we only had one day in St Petersburg and no visa. The Palace and park are really worth to visit. Our tour guide gave a lot of information.Never knew how severe it was damaged during WO2 and how it was rebuilt.

It is possible to get to the palace by public transport (take advice on this it's not straightforward). The palace is in a park and you first pay to enter the park and then queue for entry to the palace yes and pay again. There are so many tourists that only small numbers are admitted at a time (you will... More

A shame the sun goes down so early during winter time, we could barely enjoy the gardens with the snow, cold and darkness. But the palace itself was beautiful inside and outside ! :)
