I was extremely excited about the Catedral de Sal and it didn't quite meet expectations. If you are staying in Bogota and have limited time, I honestly would recommend spending more time hiking Monseratte than trekking to Catedral de Sal. It is definitely unique and...More

What an amazing place. This place is outstanding. Just a few hours drive from Bogota, it is worth going here for at least half a day. My advice is to go first thing in the morning to beat the big groups and crowds.

This really is worth the hustle of the gnarly traffic in and out of Bogota. The cathedral is beautiful and truly feels like a working church, not a tourist trap. The formal tour with our English guide was just over an hour, then we had...More

This underground Cathedral is in an underground mine and an hour out of Bogota. I hired a tour driver for 200,000 pesos (about USD$70) to take me there, wait and bring me back. It costs 50,000 pesos for a foreign entrance fee. They have guided...More

In the past twenty years this place has grown to become an important landmark in Colombia. The salt miners created small spaces of worship in the mine that eventually grew to be an elaborate, well organized, and designed cathedral (not officially recognized by the catholic...More

It is better that what you are expecting, great place, nothing religious, go and have the experience to walk into a mine of salt without notice it!

I drove with my family but bus services are cheap and direct. There is a new small terminal on the north side of the city that can provide transportation to this town.

I have never traveled by bus since I have family here, so I do not know. What I know is that you will need to travel to Zipaquira by bus from the North Terminal in Bogota (Intermunicipal) and then hike to the cathedral or... More
