My wife and I visited the site in July 2016. We arrive early and walked around the site and down the paths to the river. There is a story board on site explaining the historical events that took place here. Inside the windmill/lighthouse, we paid the small fee. You can climb almost to the top. I was disappointed when we... More

Walking in Prescott with our friends (Volksmarch ) we took the opportunity to visit this site following our tour of the Fort Wellington. Very impressive and not to be missed.

The Battle of the Windmill is a lovely historic site to visit while you are in Prescott. We climbed the stairs To the top of the windmill and enjoyed a spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River. The entire site is run by the Friends of the Windmill, a charitable organization run by volunteers. Admission is by donation, which supports... More

Well preserved and newly restored, this former windmill served as a lighthouse for over a century. It is a rare survivor and is lovingly maintained by a staff of local volunteers. The climb to the top rewards you with a panoramic view over the St. Lawrence that you are unlikely to find anywhere else. Prescott itself is a charming heritage... More

The Battle of the Windmills Historic Site (1838) is right off the highway and so close that it should not be missed. A great perspective of the American/Canadian/British/Native American history that is worth learning. A good place to stretch the legs overlooking the St. Lawrence River too.

There is not too much to see, but I believe, it is an important part of Canada`s history. Worth short stop in any case.

It was educational, interesting and fun. There is some steps to the shoreline. Between the lighthouse and parking there is a railway track. There is a picnic table to eat.

We stopped here during the open hours on the sign but it was closed. We were very disappointed. Someone else posted it's being restored so it's closed until 2016. There were no signs any where stating that.

Easy to find by following the signs from highway #2 this national historic site has lots of interpretive plaques about it's place in our history. View over the St Lawrence is terrific. The tower is currently being restored ,it will reopen in 2016.
