We have visited Wat Phra That several times in the past six years. Each time we find something interesting that we did not see in a previous visit. It is good to arrive as early as possible (it opens at 6:00) and meditate without throngs...More

It's a beautiful temple up on a hill of both Hinduism & Buddhism. There's 300 steps but it isn't that bad. At the base there are plenty of food & stalls. Very minimal cost to enter. When we went the view overlooking Chiang Mai city...More

There are about two hundred steps to climb to reach this small but spectacular temple. On a sunny day the viewing gallery is amazing with a view right across the valley. It was very busy with many people walking around chanting. Beware of the children...More

We had visited this beautiful temple in July 2016. In spite of the crowd, it was very peaceful. Beautifully carved statues and ornate idols and buildings..a representation of the rich culture. You need to be dressed fully in order to enter the temple..that's very Asian.....More

It's a must go in Chiang Mai. On top of Doi Suthep mountain, the temple is amazing. Entrance for foreigners is 30 baht. Take a songthaew (red truck) from the Zoo or University for less than 100 baht, then climb the stairs (kinda like 4...More

I've visited this temple twice, it's so gorgeous! You can do this in half a day, and I recommend going earlier to avoid crowds. Be ready to walk up some stairs, but I think it's been a little overblown in other reviews how strenuous the...More

I'm getting older and welcome the option of the funicular cars, but in the end I never use them. I like to climb the stairs, pausing when I need to, and arrive panting at the top. It's great to look forward to finally getting there...More

Normally Temple will not close but it surely will be crowded.
So can you just get there yourself and walk around? Tours are about 1300 baht of the temple & the city. I'd be happy to just get there on my own by cab if it's only a few hundred +40 entrance. Thoughts?

That's what I did when I visited too. I would recommend an open tuk tuk, instead one of the fancier cabs because you will actually enjoy the trip greatly, I think - it's amazing once you start climbing and the air becomes... More
