Interesting - spend an hour not a day

Stopped by and glad I did as it is interesting to see a monastery built into the side of a hill. An hour is plenty of time to see it so stop by but don't plan on spending a day.

This rock monastery is very easy to get to as it is a short drive from Ruse (app. 10 km). Impressing place craved in a rock accessible through a narrow staircase. Not suitable for disabled people. Once up there one can write wish on a piece of paper and throw it with a coin to have the wish fulfilled. Nice... More

The monastery was a great site to see, as it was carved into the face of the mountain. There also beautiful murals decorating the monastery walls. Even the surrounding landscape was a site to see. There were great photo opportunities thought out the site.

The rock monastery was great to view. It is built into a cliff on the side of a mountain. You can walk room to room which has about 4 rooms. There is a chapel, prayer room, I really enjoyed it. If you have ever been to Cappodocia in Turkey, this is so similar.

It is a small but very impressive cave monastery but a growing number of possibilities to do around. Every year they are building more and more around the caves, which allow for a nice relaxing stop. The garden is beautiful, there is a traditional rustic "restaurant" type of place just down the road. Not too many cars over there, so... More

Not far from Ruse suggestive monastery in the rock. Today tree monks live inside. Nice view of the surrounding valley.

This place is one of the most important old monastery of Bulgaria. There is a mistic sensation. There are inside old orthodox wood paintings, with typical Bizantine style. Inside the monastery there are also monks who live there. I advice this place.

The monastery is small but so beautiful and have a lovely garden, if you are not Bulgarian you have to pay 3 lev but it´s a reasonable ammount, the view is beautiful from the top, please be careful when you go up, the stairs are small and narrow. The only bad things I see is there is no taxis or... More

We went to this monastery to see the ancient praying rooms carved within the limestone. Rusenski Lom river made this canyon and the monks settled here and made these magnificent carvings. The landscape is very beautiful and the monastery is close to Ruse city. It is an excellent place to get out of the everyday rush and find your inner... More

Our Croisi Danube River cruise arranged the excursion to the monastery. The original natural caves were enlarged to provide living, working, and praying spaces for the monks. At the base of the cliffs a new orthodox church is being built and decorated. We were able to watch the artisans paint icons. It will be a beautiful church when finished.
