amazing spot on a warm spring day

An easy walk amongst beautifully kept water gardens. Interesting plants and features along the path, with an array of water birds. Great for a family picnic

We've driven through Ngatea hundreds of times and seen the sign for the gardens but never stopped so when it was my birthday I decided that's where I wanted to go. We turned up on a sunny Saturday morning not really sure what to expect. Upon arriving the friendly hosts gave both the kids a quiz to do around the... More

We have been intending to visit the gardens for a few years and finally managed today. What a fabulous place. Buy the 40 cents packet of fish and bird food as you enter and just enjoy the wonderfully well kept gardens the wacky signs a sense of humour is evident throughout the whole attraction. This will suit toddlers through to... More

If you want to really check out an attraction, take along a variety of age groups. This middle-aged woman took along her 30-something daughter and 3 year old granddaugther. There was absolutely, definitely, totally something for all of us to love and enjoy. Plenty of things for me to photograph, signs to make us laugh, ducks and peacocks to be... More

Wow, seen the sign for years and never stopped before! What we've been missing. Charming gardens, but the humour was the best. The cannery museum was well enjoyed by all. As was the kids quiz as we went round. Laughed from start to finish, brilliant! Then seeing the photos of the development of the sight, such vision. Definitely recommend a... More

Ngatea water gardens are a wonderful hidden gem. A great place to visit. Make sure you buy some animal food on the way in as there are lots of birds and fish to feed. Take your camera as there are tons of photo opportunities. The whole family looved this place. The quirky signs, the friendly animal, the can museum is... More

Stopped off here as a break in a drive from Auckland Airport (with a jet-lagged passenger) to Tauranga. Had a picnic lunch and a stroll round the garden. It is a very pleasant place to while away an hour or two.

These gardens were unexpected and the work / love / time and energy that went into them truly shows. I loved reading all the signs, very funny. Well worth going off track for and stopping in.

Went with my 6 year old and we both really enjoyed our visit. Good humour throughout the lovely gardens and it was engaging for him doing a quiz on his way round. He loved getting wet too. If you have kids you can visit the pool, the skate park and the gardens and it is a good day out.
