We drive out from New Plymouth to the falls some50 kilometres but well worth it. Little bit of a walk from the parking area but not too hard, the falls had plenty of water coming down and the vegetational up the falls looked great.

The dormant volcano was partly snow covered, and partly hidden in clouds. Worth a visit and take the entire track, beautiful birds and forest.

You should be able to find route maps on the DOC website, including the Translator Road. Alternatively, and assuming you are in NZ, any local iSite branch will have guides; ask for the "DOC; North Egmont Walks" leaflet... More

The mountain is too dangerous to climb in winter unless you have ice axe crampons and ropes and you are an experienced climber. From East egmont I guess you mean Dawson Falls carpark. You climb up fantham.s Peak first which... More
