We visited on 23rd March in lovely sunshine (cool wind though), which made everything look cheerful. The site was fascinating, and it was great to be able to see the exact view that Constable saw when he painted his famous "Haywain". The small visitor centre has some good examples of Constable's other works, including different views in and around Flatford... More

Flatford Mill is a very relaxing National Trust location and a great escape from your busy everyday life. You can park in the large car park and walk down through countryside to the lovely river where there are nice tea rooms and a lovely walk to dedham if you feel up to it. Great in all weathers if you are... More

Visited Flatford on Saturday 11th March. A great place for walking and soaking up the Suffolk countryside and wildlife. Lovely little tea room overlooking the river. We will definitely return.

I visited this quaint little place as I have always wanted to see where John Constable painted the Haywain. I thought it would just be the village and then there would be the mill, however it was a national trust place and lots to see, There were other buidlings and wild-life walks and cafe where I recomend the bacon roll... We attempted to visit Flatford Mill last summer but it was too packed. However a visit in February was likely to be much quieter. After speaking to the very helpful National Trust worker in the car park he pointed the way and we walked along a well made path towards the river that was made so famous by Constable's Hay... More

Love this area we usually park in Dedham and take a lovely walk along the river to Flatford Mill about 50 mins each way beside the stour. Lovely walk for the dog stunningly beautiful. When returning to Denham there are several pubs that serve fantastic food. Also tea rooms at Flatford Mill and by the river at Dedham. Row boats... More

Flatford Mill is a place thar epitomises the essence of England. Made famous by one of Englands greatest sons 'John Constable' through his wonderful paintings in particular ' The Haywain'. Willy Lott's house, which features in the painting is still there and people who are fortunate enough to be on one of the many courses on offer by the Field... More

Walked a pleasant marked trail around the fields with interesting views of the Mill and surrounding area. Popular with dog walkers and others like myself just out for a stroll. There is a good information building with Constable reproductions and a popular NT tea room at hand. It is possible to hire boats at more clement times of the year.... More

Visited here today, we had a buggy with us, there's steps to go down or you can take the road but be wary it's a hill on the way back up. We had lunch in the tea room first, prices were cheap and the food was great. Nice selection of cakes and scones too. Our hot lunch was delivered to... More
