Description:

The Monteverde Butterfly Gardens has been teaching people about the marvels...

The Monteverde Butterfly Gardens has been teaching people about the marvels of insects and arachnids for over 20 years. Our mission has always been to change the way people view these small but fantastically diverse animals. It is not hard either- with 4 different butterfly habitats housing up to 30 species of butterfly, a leaf cutter ant colony and over 20 species of live Costa Rican insects and arachnids in our nature centre we have something that will melt the heart of even the most devout bug crusher! A dedicated and passionate group of staff and volunteers will guide you on a tour through our three acre facility where you will see just some of the amazing insects and arachnids Costa Rica has to offer! The property is lush and full of other Costa Rican favourites such as capuchin monkeys and agoutis! Birders will not be disappointed with wrens galore and common visits from Keel Billed toucan, blue crowned motmot and the occasional appearance of the famed bell bird. We are open 365 days a year, so drop by whenever you can!

I was able to add this into my day and am glad I made the trip. Mellow, beautiful gardens and greenhouses full of incredible butterflies...I opted for a self guided visit (I like to meander) and was by myself to do just that as I had my many photo ops. Great staff. Nice gift shop.

We really enjoyed our visit to the butterfly garden, and the one and a half hour tour. And best of all, we were allowed to set out newly made butterflies. The Butterfly garden have four houses for the butterflies, all with different temperature zone. They have many Morpheus butterflies, which are common in South America. Morpheus butterflies are mainly large,... More

I did this tour with my two kids. They really enjoyed seeing all the cool insects and spiders in addition to the butterfly gardens. Our guide was great. He was funny and informative. We learned a lot and had the opportunity to be right up close to many unexpected creatures. It is worth a visit.

If you have kids, they will love this tour. We had 2 guides and they were both excellent. They had loads of information and presented it in an animated way that kept the kids totally entertained. It was definitely a highlight of our trip.

We are family of 6 with kids ages (10 to 4). They loved the tour and learning about all the insects...from the butterflies to the scorpions. Defiantly worth the visit.

We started with bugs and other insects and although I wasn't crazy about holding all the bugs my son really loved it. Patrick was very knowledgable and enthusiastic as he told us all about the insects. I even came away slightly less scared of scorpions! There is a coupon for $2 off person on the entry fee if you pick... More

our guide at the monteverde butterfly garden, Patrick, an intern from canada, seemed right at home telling us gringos about the insects and arachnids of monteverde. he combined witty (albeit somewhat dorky) humor with a wealth of knowledge about all the life (plant and animal) at the garden. he also graciously made us privy to some local tips and tricks... A group of friends and I visited the butterfly garden for the afternoon. Sarah was a great guide, sharing interesting facts and keeping us entertained. There is a great selection of not only butterflies, but spiders and beetles too. Thanks for a great afternoon.

We went here because we had time to kill and the reviews on Trip Advisor were very good. It's all very low key but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I was very hungry when we arrived and we were disappointed to find they had no coffee shop but the guy who took our money was really kind and gave me a... More
