Vals was one of the last stops we planned for our Switzerland trip. Although Vals was really out of the way for our entire journey, but the thermal spa itself was definitely worth a trip. Im an architect myself and this is def one of the places you must visit, esp if you're a fan of Zumthor. There are more... More

The design of those terms is really wonderful, local grey stone, enough space, pleasant swim. I missed a space with a coffee, i missed a space, even outside, where to smoke a sigarette, i missed a place, in the outdoor swimmingpool, where to sit in water and enjoy the nice sun, in a winterafternoon

fascinating stone work, many different pools hot and cold, and warm. if you go in winter, venture out to the outdoor pool to swim in the mist of the steamy water. very romantic. also there is a secret room with singing walls, try it out, but don't do it to loud not to disturb other guests. the sauna is always... Built over the only thermal springs in the Graubünden canton in Switzerland. Completed in 1996, the project was designed by Peter Zumthor. He was selected as the architect for the spa, despite his limited track record at the time. The facility was built between 1993-1996. The baths were designed to look as if they were a form of cave or quarry-like... More

This master piece of Architecture is a treat for all senses of any visitor. The different kind of baths with various temperatures, sleeping rooms with concentrated rooms. The best however is the outdoor hot bath in middle of the Swiss Alps. Must visit.

It's a long way to Vals - maybe you expect too much, then. Still: If you have been to Bormio or to Zurzach you must call Vals poor and expensive. The architecture by Zumthor is amazing, indeed. But it's not for ordinary people - darkness seems to be part of the concept although it doesn't help to see steps, entrances,... More
