I surprised my sister for her 50th with an afternoon tea at this lovely hotel as a relaxed end to a birthday week. And it was absolutely gorgeous. The grounds, the service & the food were all perfect. And I was very impressed with the Covid precautions that the hotel were taking, so we felt safe to enjoy our delicious cakes. Thoroughly recommended!

From the moment we tried to park the car, we knew that this wasn’t going to be the night away that we had hoped. The Spa is open as a general gym which meant that it was extremely busy and we found it difficult to park. I took my husband away for a significant birthday and it just so happened be valentines weekend and so I booked the valentines deal. This consisted of dinner, late checkout, glass of champagne on arrival, chocolates and in-room breakfast. The champagne and chocolates were conspicuous in their absence. The hotel decor was tired. The room was dingy and smelled of stale cigarettes. The bathroom was small and grubby. We had less than half a toilet roll in the holder and there were no replacements in the room. The toiletries were of poor quality. The low hanging light fitting was dusty, which my husband discovered painfully every time he caught his head on it. There were a number of dirty plates and glasses outside of our room for the duration of our stay which had been left by previous occupants. There were red/orange marks on the bedding. We came specifically to use the spa but were provided with no robes and on visiting reception, were told that none were available as they had been busy. No footwear is supplied and at nearly £300 for one night, a robe and slippers would be the least I would expect. Luckily we took our own footwear but the amount of people walking around barefoot through the hotel (as an aside, carpets looked grubby) was unfortunate. The pool is tiny and the spa area generally was ridiculously busy when we arrived and so we decided to sit in the cafe area to wait for things to calm down. We had a lovely freshly made smoothie each but as we got a little peckish, we decided to order a snack as the menu stated that food was served until 5. However, my husband was told at 4pm that they were no longer serving as they were ‘tidying up’. Closing early would be surprising just because it was a Saturday which would undoubtedly be the busiest day of the week. However, to do this on the weekend that they are increasing the prices and packaging it as an ‘offer’ is an astounding decision. The ONLY thing that saved this weekend from being completely disastrous were the staff. The guy on reception worked tirelessly. Every time we turned a corner, he was rushing in the opposite direction with some other purpose than checking people in. My husband joked that he wouldn’t be surprised to see him waiting tables....which it transpired that he did indeed do in the evening! The barman was very friendly and made some lovely cocktails. The lady that served us a smoothie in the cafe was lovely and the spa reception team were very friendly and helpful. All in all, I won’t be returning and my advice to anyone considering a spa break in Kent would be to save yourself the disappointment and head to Eastwell Manor. The difference in standard is astounding but the price point matches.

This is a long one so please bear with me!! My partner purchase 2 vouchers at a cost of £190 from Handpicked hotels who own this and other hotels for a day trip to the spa at Brandshatch Place for my birthday so I could take a friend with me for entrance, treatment and afternoon tea. If your read the following email you will get the drift of my complaint. Handpicked hotels completely ignored my email so sent a follow up email one week later to which I received no response either leaving me with no option than to write this review. Very disappointing service from a chain that charge a premium!! Please see emails - 1st email sent 29th October 19 Dear Sirs I am writing with regards a disappointing experience at one of your hotels. I was given 2 x Tailor Made Just For You Spa Days for my birthday (Voucher Numbers HPVYBV73Z & HPVX93LF3). On trying to book, we found this very difficult as my best friend works at a school and therefore obviously only gets weekends free and your spa was permanently booked on the weekends we could do. We then thought we would try to book one of your special offers of sunday night stay and have the treatments on the Monday over one of the bank holiday weekends. I enquired if we could exchange the voucher for your sunday stay offers that included dinner and breakfast the next morning with a spa visit with treatments. The value of this was more than my vouchers so would be increasing the amount spent but was told categorically no that the voucher could not be exchanged towards this. So fine, we set about trying to book in, throughout the summer holidays which proved futile as the days we could do, the spa was unavailable. Fast forward to October where I was worried my voucher was due to expire, so spoke to a customer service advisor who kindly agreed to extend the voucher by a week so we could attend on the 24th October which was during the half term. On arrival, check in was pleasant and after filling in our consultations, we were led to the changing room being advised of where everything was. After changing we made our way downstairs to the gym, we did notice children sitting on the floor in the hallway on tablets but thought nothing of it. Whilst in the gym I noticed a bolt on the floor and as I went to pick it up to keep it our of harms way, I was told by a gentleman that he attends the gym almost every day and had noticed the bolt some time ago and decided to see how long it would stay there, he in fact said that he had been on holiday the previous 10 days returning that day to find the bolt still there. This obviously made us feel that cleaning could not be up to scratch and maybe highlighted our look into the place although the errors were not difficult to spot. We then made our way to the pool which is small and inside with no windows ( a cave like room) which would be no problem except for the fact that there were six children in the pool shouting, screaming and jumping in splashing. Now, I have grandchildren and I do take them swimming but when I book a spa, it is to relax, how is this relaxing? At the very least I would of expected to have been told to expect this, especially as I told the advisor my friend was a teacher and with all due respect, she doesn't want her time off spent in school like conditions. So we did not go in the pool at all and headed for the Jacuzzi, small and very crowded but we did get a little time in there before heading up for our treatments. As we passed the coffee shop, we did notice 2 buckets scattered around to catch drips coming through the conservatory roof as it was raining quite hard. On to our treatments, a lovely girl collected me and showed me to the room, my costume was wet so she offered me disposable mens trunks as she had no ladies bottoms and left me to get changed. After laying on the bed and looking around, the room is definitely in need of some tlc but I was appalled to see a layer of dust on the blind that must have been there weeks not days. and it made me wonder if the blind is this dirty, what is the rest of the room like with the lights turned on. Mine and my friends treatment was a 90 min bio tech facial for which we paid an extra £10. Mine, I have to say was lovely, the music was a little low so you could hear noises but it was fine. It included a lovely head, shoulder & neck massage whilst my mask was on which as a beauty therapist myself was very welcome. I finished my treatment, dressed and left quite satisfied. However on exiting, my friend was already outside and said she had been there for at least 15 minutes which means she did not get her 90 minutes? She said there was no music at all in the room and all she could hear was the costume dryer from the changing rooms downstairs. She also said that no offer of disposable bottoms was made so her treatment was carried out in her wearing a wet costume. I felt the micro current going across my face during treatment but she said she felt nothing at all, not evening any warming from the galvanic. She also said that whilst the mask was on the therapist run her fingers through her hair a couple of times but that was it, no massage at all. Disappointed we tried to go into the after treatment relaxation room to chill for a few minutes before lunch, but finding it absolutely rammed to the brim, we just got some water from the machine, collected our purse and heading for lunch at 1.30. By this time, the buckets laying around to catch the rain had increased to six and in between all over the floor lay spa towels to soak up the really wet carpet so we had to dodge these to get into the lunch room. Lunch was very enjoyable but to be honest apart from just sitting for about 15 mins on the loungers after lunch, we decided to dress and get a coffee before leaving at 3.30pm. All in all it was a very disappointing experience, bearing in mind the cost of the vouchers with our additional £20 ( we also spent another £50 whilst there on various drinks). With so many establishments offering very good deals, especially at this time of year being a little quiet in the run up before Christmas, I would expect your levels of all round service to have been much better. I await your response. Yours faithfully Heather Pulford 2nd email sent 4th November 19 Dear Sirs I am extremely disappointed to note that despite my email from almost one week ago ( as below) I have not received either a simple acknowledgement of my complaint, let alone a response. Please forward me your official lines of complaint procedure. Heather Pulford

I booked a spa day for myself and 2 friends - all of us needed a relaxing day and we weren't disappointed. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. I was phoned the day before to let me know the time of our first treatments, we had a warm welcome, the lunch was delicious - fantastic brownies - and we each had wonderful treatments. We didn't use the pool or any other facilites so i can't comment on those. As it was a school day ( specifically chose ), no noise from children to disturb us - just peace and relaxation. Perfect. My friends definitely want to book again. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a great day.

My husband booked this spa break for my birthday treat but I was hugely disappointed. The overall place was old fashioned dirty and grubby. The so called relaxation rooms had dirty towels left on the beds with tea cups and glasses piled up on the tables. Having got into the whirl pool noticed how dirty it was I got straight back out. The swimming pool is small with lots of kids jumping in and out making a swim impossible. The menu was very limited and the service was very slow waited about 10 minutes just to be served I only wanted a cup of tea and this seemed to be too much trouble for the woman who served me huffing and puffing because I asked for a tea spoon and then some milk.. The massage rooms were grubby and dirty. The reception staff were rude they stood around chatting while I stood there for 5 minutes before being acknowledged. This place is too expensive and is not a proper spa. I would avoid this place and save your money. I would not go back to this place and I would definitely not recommend it.
