This has to be my favourite museum. The site offers a range of activities, including an indoor museum, mine tour, steam train rides, panning for gems in the stream, mine machinery collection, and a shop. On our first visit we were greeted at the shop...More

It's a rainy day when we were in Lake District. We enjoyed the museum and mining tour (very informative). Children spent hours on the pan next to the river (gold digger?). Train ride was okay, but kids love to take train so i cannot take...More

An amazing abundance of information about the extensive mining history of the district and the vast range of ores and minerals that were extracted from the hills in the district. The steam train is well maintained but the run is short

It's at heart of lake district, so, you can expect nice scenic view near by. They have a small train station for small ride, but only at three times a day. Mine itself is good, It's a make shift mine, not original one. Museum is...More

We very much enjoyed looking at the samples of rocks and minerals from quarries in the area, which were displayed effectively. We do have an interest in geology though, so not everyone might be as keen as we were. Very reasonable entry fee of £3

We found this museum by chance what an interesting place especially for digger , train and mining enthusiasts, best of all a very relaxed atmosphere and great staff.would love to go back to this unusually unspoilt museum .

We went as a group including 2 grandchildren - there are several "parts" to the visit : the basic entrance fee includes the museum, you pay extra for the mine tour, railway and "panning for gold" so the cost can certainly add up. All parts...More

They have a price list out the front. The above answer is vaguely correct. You don't have to do everything. We just did the museum and tour. Be sure to phone ahead to book your place on the tour as it does sell out!
