What travellers are saying
- DBseestheWorldKilleen, TX60 contributionsDrove thru here many times, especially when we did have business at City Hall (school registration). Incredibly lovely and if timed right, nearly empty!Written 18 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DBseestheWorldKilleen, TX60 contributionsTook my daughter here for the events. She learned star mapping, and SO much more. At the time, she really wanted to be an astronaut. She learned Japanese so I cannot speak to the rest of the experience aside from saying the grounds were lovely, and the people very accommodating to non-Japanese speakers.Written 18 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - grammiejaneyScottsdale, AZ54 contributionsStaying here on business and being without a car, we wandered into Station Square every evening. The shops are unique and beautifully organized with perfect displays. The restaurants are mainly Japanese, and most do not have any English words in the displays, but you can use a phone translator to make out some of the words. If that fails, the restaurants have 3-D models of all the dishes, and you can just point to what you want. In addition to the stores and restaurants, there is a fabulous grocery store on the bottom floor which has everything: food ready to go, all regular grocery store items, flowers and a nice liquor section. One of the best shops is the dollar store! Great deals! It's also very neatly organized. It's fun just to walk around. Very clean, no smoking, and just plain fun.Written 23 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

The current Imperial Palace (皇居, Kōkyo) is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family.
Edo Castle used to be the seat of the Tokugawa shogun who ruled Japan from 1603 until 1867. In 1868, the shogunate was overthrown, and the country's capital and Imperial Residence were moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. In 1888 construction of a new Imperial Palace was completed. The palace was once destroyed during World War Two, and rebuilt in the same style, afterwards.
From Kokyo Gaien, the large plaza in front of the Imperial Palace, visitors can view the Nijubashi, two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The stone bridge in front is called Meganebashi (Eyeglass Bridge) for its looks. The bridge in the back was formerly a wooden bridge with two levels, from which the name Nijubashi (Double Bridge) is derived.Written 6 October 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
