The summit area of Mt. Hachimantai has a network of very well-maintained trails that are mostly stone or wood, so even in wet weather you don't have to worry about mud. The trails circle a number of pristine ponds and allow you to explore an alpine wetland.

I've been up here dozens of times and love it. If you go in the early spring it's still covered in snow and you can walk around in snow shoes or boots. In the summer there are all kinds of flowers blooming, and in the fall you get all the beauty of the fall colors. (The road up to the summit closes for the winter, making it basically inaccessible until April 15th when it opens again for the spring.)

The snow was good, the slopes were well maintained, and all services provided were excellent. In short, a perfect place to enjoy skiing and winter sport, not too crowded although this was probably due to the moment in the season that was off-peak. The number of slopes is maybe a bit small for a full week of skiing activities. However, I was only there for a few days, so it was fine.

My first ski experience since COVID was then a great success! I will come back!

The Hachimantai Aspite Line opens on April 15, and closes again in early November every year. In April there are enormous walls of snow towering on either side of the road forming the famous snow corridor.
In the summertime it's great for visiting the summit to hike with beautiful views of the mountains along the way.
In the fall the view of the autumn leaves is unrivaled! Really a great road to drive for the entire period that it's open.

This bridge boasts some of the best views around for fall colors during the autumn. Most people drive right over it without stopping for most of the year, but in October when the trees turn orange, red, and yellow, people come from all around to gaze in wonder and take photos in all directions.

Fantastic little resort with excellent runs and great snow, friendly staff and a great restaurant, enjoyed it that much we went twice! Great for all level of skiing and snowboarding abilities. The ticket covers Panorama resort with a free shuttle bus between which makes for a great days skiing. If we go back to the region we would definitely consider staying at the Hachimantai Hotel on the slope at Panorama-it looks great

This combined facility is both a farmer's market and a restaurant where you can eat lunch. The farmer's market is great for all kinds of local items and is pretty affordable.
The restaurant serves some interesting dishes including noodles made with spinach and a wild blueberry soft serve ice cream.

In this museum, visitors can learn about the rise and fall of the Matsuo Mine, which was once said to be the largest sulfur mine in the East, and the lives of the people here, along with valuable preserved documents. An old electric locomotive used for transporting mined sulfur is preserved in front of the building. Climbing the Hachimantai Aspite Line, the ruin of the apartment where the miners and their families lived can still be seen.

This is the forth oldest geothermal power plant in the world. Also this is proud of its excellent quality of steam with no impurities.
The steam is used for dyeing at Geothermal Dyeing Studio where you can try the dyeing.
There are three long-run onsen and Japanese hotels around it.

This area is most popular in June when a variety of local flowers are in bloom, but really worth hiking any time of year during the open season of the Hachimantai Aspite Line. The path is well-maintained with wooden boardwalks across much of it, making for a great family-friendly hiking area.

This area right at the foot of Mt. Iwate marks where a volcanic eruption covered the area in magma 300 years ago. If you're not used to volcanoes, it's pretty impressive. There is a walkway that goes through the center of the volcanic rocks and takes you to some nice observation decks.
There's also a trailhead to hike up to the summit of Mt. Iwate here, as well as public bathrooms and a car camp area.
