    This park is where snow-melt from Mt. Fuji that has soaked into the ground, accumulated and run downhill finally oozes back out of the ground as the source of the Kakita River. There are several locations in the park where one can see the springs and the resultant river. It is an incredible sight! I was mesmerized, just watching the percolating sand.

    Visited on my way back to Yamanashi pref from Shizuoka Pref (Gotemba).
    You can try to taste many kinds of local small snacks and also on the second floor you can try an onsen-foot-spa, too. It made us so relaxing.

    With a fabulous view of Mt. Fuji when it is clear, this speed way is one of the world's best maintained with top class facilities in excellent condition (according to a relative who goes on many rallies and car events all over the world).

    We went for the Fuji Jamboree Event which showcased classic cars with a Historic Car race. It showcased a wide range of cars from Lotus, Porsche, Jaguar, Honda, Toyotas, Cosmos to name a few. There was a boot sale that was going on in the lot which was great.

    In addition to the main race track, there is a secondary short track and a Drift course which is quite a sight to see.

    There are great viewing points along the race track, grand stand seating, on the roof of the pit garage, on the grass by the Orizuru restaurant, or within the restaurant that have great viewing windows and TV screens while you can enjoy a bowl of ramen or a coffee. There is also a gift shop in Orizuru.

    It is a great place for a race, and an ideal setting for car fanatics.

    This is a museum curated by people with an unusually excellent sense of beauty and sensitivity to art and the experience of art. The leafy setting of the museum provides a sense of well-being, and inside, you are treated to tastefully light and airy spaces. I was new to Buffet, and his art seems to have a "dark" image, so I was a bit doubtful, but the paintings are amazingly striking and well worth a look. The artistic sense carries into the "Treehouse" cafe too - our plates of tiny. homely scones with jam and cream were aesthetically presented. The Museum Shop sells books and various goods which emphasise a genuinely deep respect for nature. How refreshing! All in all, we had a beautiful, uplifting, "whole" experience. The museum is a little hard to reach; we went by taxi from Mishima Station which did take about 20 minutes as the website states, but this museum is very, very worth the effort.

    This is where my grand parents are buried. I visited here in October with my elderly father. We took an early weekday Odakyu romance car from Shinjuku to Gotemba and ended up having to wait around by the station for the first free shuttle bus to Fuji Reien. The gardens here are very well kept and the shuttle bus that circles around the cemetery is convenient and somewhat somber.

    I would like to visit again during hanami season.

    Don't do what we did and research the details a little better :-) Our story of two clearly unprepared dinkuses (me, 34F, husband 36M) set on a lil' day hike who only surface-planned it. What does that mean? We knew which route we wanted to take -- Subashiri trail from 5th station, because shorter and less crowded. we knew we needed to take two buses from Shinjuku, we knew people did it in 1 day, we knew it was chilly up top so we brought layers. What we didn't know? Basically everything else.

    First week of September, really lucked out with a sunny day, little winds. Started at Shinjuku station 7:35am, we took Odakyu Highway Express bus to Gotemba (1800yen one way per person). It was supposed to be 1hr25 mins, however, on the last 2 miles we hit a horrible traffic jam due to a flipped car and this pushed us back by over an hour. We arrived at Gotemba and the next bus to Subashiri trail wasn't leaving until 10:35 (2700yen roundtrip per person). This bus ride is 60-65 mins in ideal conditions with no traffic. Per our brief "planning session", our expectation was a "quick ride from Gotemba to 5th" (as Google kindly described it).

    Make sure to bring cash, anything you need on the trail (bathroom, water, food, rest) is cash only and each next station is more expensive than the previous one. Ex: bathroom at 5rh station is 100 yen, 8th station is 300yen. Water bottle 500 yen at 8th station. Now to the culprit of our panic/holycrap moment. We found out the last bus from Subashiri back to Gotemba on a weekday leaves at 5:45pm. NOT 8:10pm as we thought we saw online (it's only true for weekends)

    Every person we encountered on the way up, laughed at us when hearing we planned on making it to the summit same day. Every. Single. Person. Seems most popular option is to stay at the 8th station lodge overnight. After like 12 people laughing/making fun of us, I was mentally getting ready to sleep on the bench and take the first bus out next day (sobbing over the prepaid hotel breakfast we would miss). Well, being dumb, determined, and not realizing how much it will end up wrecking our legs , we made it to the summit in 3.5hrs (including all very brief breaks). I think because of how fast we were going, altitude change didn't get a chance to catch up wiht me too much (but husband absolutely did feel light headed at the top).

    Definitely make sure to put sunblock on. If you are not sprinting up like idiots, bring layers - we ended up not needing ours but again.... dumb reasons. It does get chilly towards the top, with rather uncomfortable winds (check the forecast for the mountain beforehand). Going down there's a separate path, covered in soft volcanic ashes and rock mix. You can figure out a way to run it. It took us a bit over an hour to make it back to the station with 15 mins to spare before the last bus. They do have staff there until 7pm who can help figuring out a taxi if you are stuck -- luckily we didn't need it. On weekends, there's a later bus back to Gotemba.

    We were late to the bus from Gotemba to Tokyo, arriving from Subashiri at 6:45pm with the other bus leaving at the same time. There's a JR line though, you can go to Matsuda from platform 1 (40 mins, 500 yen per person, verify platform number), then transfer to Shinjuku (1hr 15 mins 800 yen per person). We were back at Shinjuku 9:15pm.Quads and calves were not the same ever since the hike. Also practically unusable on the stairs for the next 4 days. Darwinism at its finest. But doable. Hope this helps someone else.

    A nice stroll, inside and out. Lovely sculptures. And the reward at the bottom of the hill is a very nice restaurant. Book ahead for both.

    It's not only a service area on a highway but a great attraction. It is themed with Evangelion, featuring lots of sold-only-here goods.
    You'll be surprised by the toilets being spotlessly clean and futuristic.
    Mt Fuji can be viewed most beautifully around here.
    Definitely worth a trip!

    As located on the best vantage point to watch for attacks during the Middle Age or the peak of Samurai battle era on the highest pass (“toge”) in the area, this “joshi park” is a park built on a ruin of a fortitude guarding Odawara Castle. No wonder it offered me the best view of my life. Be warned that the fortitude is not rebuilt nor provided replica.

    I went up to the north side of the access traffic road, climbing stairs from the closest parking lot facing to a large tourist area map and next to a stone dedicated to a warrior. The stairs land on a grassy area with added garden bush, and sign posts and stone markers tell you what function each area served for; sorry, I found nothing provided in English.
    Past a stone slab to mark the Joshi koen Park, on the hilltop, there are a few picnic benches. Turn around and on the Odawara side, you see the Sagami Bay, and maybe the Manazuru peninsula on a crisp winter day. A small dry moat separates the “head” where guards might have hid behind wooden fences to counter attack enemies. The area they scanned is now the city of Gotemba toward Mt.Fuji. To the right, you have mountain range of Oyama and Tanzawa. To the left, steam shafts of Owakudani onsen area is visible.
    Keep up your imagination and see what Hideyoshi Toyotomi had deserved this location so much. He must have felt as if he became the owner of Mt.Fuji. If he did not gain this fortitude on Ashigara pass, chances are that defeating Hayakawa clan at Odawara was not accomplished nor Hideyoshi’s plan to conquer eastern and northern Japan were fulfilled. Could Masamune Date revolted against Toyotomi in that case and tip the power balance ?

    * Access
    Not quite convenient if you don’t drive, especially on weekdays with very few bus service. Or the uphill from Suruga Oyama station is not recommended for beginner hikers, or guys treading on Super Cub should be warned of the endless curves with 10%+ climbs.
    * Toilet
    An eco toilet is in a 5-minutes’ walk along the traffic road toward Suruga-Oyama/Atami, with 3-4 parking lot, next to a shrine and a house; it could be a bit smelly when the temperature is below 20C, as the treatment system does not flush but utilize saw dust and bio to save water. Toward Gotemba, rest rooms could be found in the restaurants on the toll ways to Atami or Izu area.
    * Half-day round trip
    Best drop by for a half-day round trip drive, 4-5 hours starting from Tokyo. Routes can be combined to pick from among points like Gotemba, Ashinoko Lake, Odawara or Atami. For Hakone Driveway, Hakone Turn Pike or Rts 246/74/78, be prepared for ice sheets or snow; consult Gotemba city website for alerts.

    I was staying nearby to the shrine so went twice. There is a man who speaks English very well as I discovered when getting my goshuin. Amazing, massive cedars, 1200 years old and a beautiful garden. enjoyable walk around the grounds.
