... wished we'd brought plastic sleds with us! Scenically it's beautiful - Sugarloaf islands just off the coast and the sea coming around them to create two beaches at 90 degrees angles (on the tide we were there).
NP is so lucky to have so many great beaches.

This was my local beach growing up, and is still one of the best beaches I've ever visited.
We loved our stay at Opunake Beach, and hope to return before too long...the south Taranaki coast is ruggedly beautiful, and the scenery is stunning.

Wonderfully rugged west coast beach, black sand, lots to explore, plenty of driftwood, great place to watch the sunset.

You can walk along to Ohawe Beach for some more interesting pickings....the pebbles on the beach range in all sorts of colours and drift wood in all shapes and sizes.
Our family recently decided to complete the South Taranaki coastal walk from Waihi Beach to Ohawe Beach after the recent redevelopment of the walkway down Denby Road in Hawera.
