What travellers are saying
- SteveK28762Worcestershire, UK132 contributionsWe visited Cannon Beach in order to see Haystack Rock, as I suppose many people do.
Firstly, it was great to see in the flesh and a lovely short walk on the back to get there. Very impressive indeed, and worth the trip.
Secondly, Cannon Beach is a lovely place and really worth a wander round, to get the feel of the town with all its shops, cafes and interesting buildings.
However, and here's my issue, if a town is going to be so geared up for the tourist trade, then it really needs to provide somewhere to park. The obvious car-park only has around 50 spaces and there was nowhere else to go (that was signposted anyway). We got lucky as someone left just as we passed their space, but we were on the verge of leaving without having a wander as there were so few parking options.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - VanEsq12Dallas, TX4,118 contributionsFor anyone visiting the area, this aquarium is a beautiful way to learn about the diverse ecosystems of this region. I am a sucker for immersive tunnels, and there are three of them!! Passages of the deep is the crown jewel of this facility, with a variety of sharkes, rays and an assortment of native fish. It is clean, well kept, and the signage is excellent. I imagine this is a very popular field trip destination for students in this area! You can see everything in 60-90 minutes, depending on whether or not you stop for an animal presentation or fish feeding. There is a cafe and gift shop on site, as well as picnic tables and a play area for kids. Get here early! There was already a line at opening.Written 5 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sheldon KingWynyard, Canada1,303 contributionsVery windy but amazing views. The power of the ocean is so on display here. - Sara G.Saint Louis, MO791 contributionsAstoria, OR is a must visit to climb the Astoria Column. It’s a historic monument with an unbeatable viewpoint. Built in 1926 as part of a series of 12 markers celebrating the westward expansion and the contributions of early settlers. Its design is inspired by the Trajan's Column in Rome, with its 125-foot height decorated with intricate murals that spiral around the tower, depicting key moments in the region’s exploration, including Lewis and Clark’s expedition.
The climb up the 164-step spiral staircase is well worth it. Once at the top, you're rewarded with 360-degree views that stretch across the Columbia River, Pacific Ocean, and the coastal range.Written 27 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There’s a nice interpretive center before going to the lighthouse. There are restrooms, a small souvenir shop, help desk and an informative exhibit about life at the lighthouse a hundred years ago. There are two short films on a constant loop - one explaining the history and life at the lighthouse and the other focuses on the tide pools and birds of the area. Recommend people stop in before visiting the lighthouse.
The lighthouse sits a mile out. There are stairs down to the tide pools. I had my dog with me, so I couldn’t get close to the lighthouse.Written 27 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Oregon coast is beautiful and there is an abundance of beauty here. The parking area can get congested and parking can be difficult.Written 27 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael MNevis, MN90 contributionsThe lighthouse is a bit of a walk but worth it when you see the incredible views. Photo opportunities of the coast simply can not be described with words. If you like visiting lighthouses as you travel along the Oregon coast this one is worth stopping for.Written 1 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SteveK28762Worcestershire, UK132 contributionsCompletely natural attraction in so far as you're seeing the sea-lions in their natural habitat, be that in the caves or basking in the sunshine on the rocks. This place provides a great viewing point, and loads of information about the animals so I'd recommend a visit at any time of year.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia19,450 contributionsAstoria Megler bridge connects WA state with Oregon over the mighty Columbia river.
We were driving from WA direction and when entering the bridge (no tolls) you drive almost right above the water. At around half the river the bridge starts to elevate pretty steep, and you drive uphill until you reach the highest point before descending down at Astoria, Oregon side.
It took around 5 min to cross, however lousy weather spoiled the experience a little bit.Written 29 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It gave a great overall explanation of the city then & now. The ride itself is up & back on the same track. We got up at one end & the seats "flip" so you aren't going backwards on the return. What a great restoration of this trolley.Written 26 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
