What travellers are saying
- Getaway60636528465Luleå, Sweden115 contributionsYou simply can not miss this museum if you go to Guadeloupe and you pass by Pointe-à-Pitre. It is an absolute must. Allow one hour (minimum) and take in all the stories, pictures, video displays etc. It is one of the best museums I have ever visited and I have travelled a lot. We tried to send e-mails in English well in advance about storing luggage (since we were on our way to the airport) but our taxi driver helped us last minute and everything worked out fine.Written 24 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nicholas NCopenhagen, Denmark818 contributionsIt's ok but nothing special. It's free so if you pass by you might as well go in but not worth taking a big detour to see.Written 13 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robby G CToronto, Canada78,235 contributionsI hoped that we could see this Musee Schoelcher. It was closed for renovations.
They posted how it will look like when it will be finished.
All we can do is wait.

The door was open though so sneaked a peak and it was ok but not much to see.Written 13 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robby G CToronto, Canada78,235 contributionsI liked that beach. We could venture and the beach had several attractions to explore.
There was a shelter and lots of trees, as well as palm trees.
The beach was light brown beach.
I like especially the colors of the ocean. It had several colors. Wow!
There were some waves.
A bit further away, there were rocks. Another place to enjoy!

When you make your way down to the area where the ferry leaves, there is a large parking lot, and an attendant collects 5€ for the day. It seems that there are three ferry companies to choose from: Val Ferry, CTM Deher and Beatrix. We went with Val Ferry leaving at 9AM. We arrived to buy our tickets at about 8:40, on a Monday, and had no problem.
The 9AM ferry ended up not leaving until about 9:15. It seemed like they were waiting to fill it up. You could either sit inside downstairs or outside, partially covered upstairs. If you are even a little prone to seasickness, you will likely feel it on this trip, so prepare for that ahead. It’s a relatively quick, 30 minute trip, but the seas were extremely rough. The upstairs on the way back seemed to be better.
We had booked a round trip ticket. Check the time on the sign before you leave in the morning because it is not printed on your ticket. Our return ferry was scheduled for 5:00PM. We began queueing at about 4:45. 5:00 came and went with no sign of a Val Ferry boat. Meanwhile, a CTM Deher and Beatrix ferry each came and went.
At about 5:30, an announcement was made that they were working on the boat and that the new time would be “7:00PM”. It ended up being about 6:15 that a ferry showed up. Based on other comments, it sounds like this may be a recurring theme. On the other hand, there are worse places to be delayed than beautiful Terre de Haut!
Delay and rough seas aside, the experience was fine.Written 7 February 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The park behind, to the city, is nice, but once again empty.Written 13 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Miriam W11 contributionsThe Spice Market was ok and we met some nice vendors, but some of them are pretty aggressive; you just have to walk away if it is a bother to you. Prices were a bit high, but it is Pointe-à-Pitre! You can find the same beautiful spices and other products in smaller town markets at a better price. We stayed in Sainte-Rose, and the daily market there has everything you want, plus they're willing to bargain. Also, if you are looking for other type of souvenirs, wander around the streets away from the Spice market area, there are many stores offering fun stuff and you won't feel so much like tourist bait.Written 5 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robby G CToronto, Canada78,235 contributionsI hoped that the door was open, but it wasn't. The church was either grey or white.
The tower is really high. We can see it in the town.
On the top of the tower is the cross.
They had also a cavern named Massabielle.
There was a virgin Mary. There were a lot of candles.

Information to the passengers, the signposts at the PaP harbor and the quality of the chairs should be improved.Written 8 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However there were young kids playing football. On Guadeloupe, most of the children play football.
There were also people encouraging the kids, from parents and bystanders.
The whole time we were here, the kids were playing, no matter if it rains or not.
The adults were protected from the rain. They sat at the stand.
These kids were really good!
